  • Cassidy to leave Jaguar TCS Racing

    Jaguar TCS Racing have confirmed that Nick Cassidy will leave the team at the end of the 2024/2025 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship by mutual agreement.

    Cassidy’s Season 10 total of 176 points – including two wins, six podiums, five fastest laps and a pole position – were instrumental in Jaguar TCS Racing winning the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship, Jaguar’s first World Championship as a manufacturer since 1991.

    Cassidy has scored six wins, a further seven podiums, seven fastest laps and two poles in Jaguar colours, totalling 278 points this season.

    The team thanked Cassidy for “his incredible work ethic, relentless determination to win and of course, his outright speed”.

    It has not been confirmed where Cassidy will be heading for next season, but has confirmed he will be on the grid!

    Nick is an exceptional racing driver and a very astute competitor as the world can see from his performances. He has impressed everyone in the team with his unwavering dedication to win and I’m proud of the role he’s played in our team success. On behalf of the whole team, I’d like to thank Nick and wish him all the best for a successful future – starting of course with the final race weekend of the 2024/2025 Season in London, where together we’ll still be fighting as hard as ever for points, podiums and wins.

    The decision to leave Jaguar TCS Racing has not been an easy one, but ultimately it is the right one for me personally. I’d like to thank everyone at the team for their support since I joined at the beginning of Season 10. We have fought hard and had some great success together.   • McLaren to make Formula E exit

    McLaren has announced that they will be exiting Formula E at the end of the 2024/25 season, which ends in London in late July.

    The Formula E team was spawned from the previous works Mercedes EQ entry in 2022 and entered the Gen3 era with majority backing from the NEOM ‘future city’ initiative in Saudi Arabia.

    While the team will require rebranding for next season, the NEOM funding is in place until the end of 2026.
    But it is understood than an option for the NEOM title partnership to be extended for a further four years is not being taken up – which in turn has led McLaren to switch focus to its Le Mans hypercar programme.

    Its powertrains have been provided by Nissan and this agreement is also in place for whatever the entry will run as next season.

    McLaren finished eighth in its first season in 2023 and then improved to seventh last year, taking a win at the Sao Paulo E-Prix with Sam Bird.

    They currently sit 5th in 2024-25 points standings, with full-season rookie Taylor Barnard in 4th in the drivers’ championship with two pole positions and three podium finishes from 7 races.

    We have been on an incredible journey so far as a team and are rightly proud of our achievements. Since the start of season nine [2023] of the Formula E world championship, we have been extremely fortunate to have been an integral part of the McLaren Racing family. Although our McLaren Racing chapter comes to an end, we recognise the value and power of Formula E as a world championship and platform for positive change as the sport goes from strength to strength.Work is well under way to explore the best opportunities for the team to continue competing beyond season 11 [2024-25].

    In response to recent reports, Formula E can confirm that, following changes to its sponsorship portfolio, McLaren has informed us of its intention to withdraw its brand from the customer team it currently operates in the Formula E world championship. While this may take effect at the end of the current season, there remains the possibility that the partnership could continue through the end of Gen3 in 2026. We recognise that the commercial landscape in motorsport is dynamic and often subject to change. Despite this development, the team, under the leadership of Ian James, is already engaged in positive discussions with potential partners and investors. We are confident the team will remain a strong presence in the championship, operating under a new identity if required.

  • Fortescue Zero becomes Official Pit Boost Provider

    Fortescue Zero has been announced as the Official Pit Boos Provider of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship for Season 11.

    Having successfully developed and launched its new PIT BOOST technology for the all-electric series, its hardware provides teams competing in the global championship with a +10% boost of total battery capacity, in less than 30 seconds.

    This rapid and efficient ultra-fast booster system has been designed to deliver two battery boosts from a portable unit.
    The use of onboard energy storage also enables the 600kW boost that is not constrained by grid connection.

    PIT BOOST technology was first deployed in competition during Round 3 of Season 11 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and will continue to be deployed during double-headers as part of the 16 race calendar this season, including rounds in Monaco, Tokyo, Shanghai, Berlin and London.

    Fortescue Zero has taken its ultra-fast boost innovations and used them to help develop real-world solutions with on-road and heavy industry vehicle applications, including a 6MW fast charger that is designed to be compatible with a wide range of battery electric heavy mining equipment.

    This process underscores Formula E’s position to offer commercial partners and organisations with a world-leading test bed where new products and systems can be developed and integrated into the world championship and beyond.

  • Envision sign O’Sullivan for Rookie FP

    Envision Racing has singed British racing driver Zak O’Sullivan for the Rookie Free Practice in Jeddah, as part of a new role that will see him also become a simulator driver.

    O’Sullivan boasts and impressive racing CV to date – with numerous wins in karting before stepping up to single seaters.

    In 2020, the 19 year old narrowly missed out on the British Formula 4 title, finishing runner-up before going onto win the GB3 Championship the following year.

    Two seasons for FIA Formula 3 followed and after stepping onto the podium twice in his rookie campaign in 2022, he became a title contender the following year – taking four wins and settling for the runner-up spot in the championship.

    Most recently, he has competed in the FIA Formula 2 Championship where he took a sensational win in Monaco, before stepping onto the top step once again in Spa-Francorchamps. However, he was unable to complete the full season due to funding obstacles.

    However, his plans for this year has already been announced and the Brit is competing in the highly competitive Japanese Super Formula Championship for the 2025 season.

    I’m very excited to be going to Jeddah to test a Formula E car for the first time. It is going to be a new challenge for me. The session itself will provide a good opportunity for me to learn the car and I will also be making sure I spend as much time with the team as possible across the race week, so I absorb as much as I can.

  • Rookie Free Practice for Jeddah E-Prix

    The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will introduce a Rookie Free Practice session as part of the Jeddah E-Prix, specifically designed for drivers who have never raced in the Championship.

    The 40 minute session, scheduled for Thursday 13th February, will provide experienced racing talent from other motorsport championships valuable track time to discover the new groundbreaking technology of Formula E’s GEN3 Evo car.

    The rookie free practice is only open to experienced racing drivers from other series, with a free practice only e-licence.
    It offers hand on experience with the latest Formula E technology, capable of 0-100km/h in 1.82s.

    Teams must nominate a driver and allocate a race car number seven days prior to the event, with the teams announcing drivers already.

    This initiative follows the successful inaugural Women’s Test in Madrid in October, and further emphasises Formula E and the FIA’s dedication to creating diverse and inclusive pathways for the next generation of racing drivers.

    Following on from the success of our Official Women’s Test in November, we’re thrilled to introduce this dedicated Rookie Free Practice session at the Jeddah E-Prix. It’s a crucial next-step in fulfilling our commitment to nurturing the next generation of racing talent, including young women.     It’s crucial for the FIA to allow drivers to develop their careers through FIA World Championships, and the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has one of the most competitive grids around.   • Nissan sign Sette Camara as Reserve & Simulator Driver

    Nissan have signed Brazilian, Sergio Sette Camara as the team’s Reserve and Simulator Driver for Season 11.

    The Brazilian has been a full-time racer in the series for the last four seasons, putting in several strong performances.

    Previously he took multiple victories and podiums in FIA Formula 2, before making the switch to the all-electric championship midway through Season 6 (2019/20).

    The 26 year old will work closely with Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato throughout the new campaign to ensure that the Japanese outfit remains a strong contender in the championship.

    His experience will be very valuable not only in the simulator for event preparation, but also to help the team with its continuous development of the Nissan e-4ORCE 05 Gen3 Evo car.

    I’m thrilled to join Nissan. It’s always been a goal of mine to work with a big manufacturer in the series, and Nissan took a big step forward in Season 10. I believe that, with my experience, I can help the team to keep this momentum going. I’m pleased to become the reserve and simulator driver and contribute to developing the car in the right direction as we enter the GEN3 Evo era. I can’t wait to get started and be in attendance at my home E-Prix this weekend with the squad.

    We’re delighted to welcome Sérgio as our reserve and simulator driver for Season 11. He has plenty of experience in the championship and is a very talented racer, so it was a clear choice for us to sign him. Regardless of ability, it’s tough to jump in a Formula E car and be competitive straight away, given its complexity, so we were keen to recruit an experienced driver and ensure we don’t miss any chance to score points in the season, no matter the circumstances. We’ll also benefit from his extensive knowledge of the series in our race preparation, which is always key. I am convinced he will be a great asset to the team and help us achieve our full potential.

  • RND 1 – Sao Paulo E-Prix

    FP1-

    The first practice session of the new season saw plenty of action but it was Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato who made it a Nissan one-two result ahead of race day.

    Jake Dennis also looked rapid in his Andretti to go third. It was an impressive session for NEOM McLaren newbie Taylor Barnard, who finished the session in fifth as he gets ready to embark on his first full-time season in Formula E.

    Jaguar’s Nick Cassidy was the first driver out on track quickly followed by both Lola Yamaha ABT cars of di Grassi and rookie Maloney.
    The first time on the board was a 1m 13.951 from di Grassi but the benchmark was soon matched as drivers started to get familiar with the track and their new GEN3 Evo car.

    Several drivers used the practice session to test the limits of their cars, with the likes of Envision’s Robin Frijns, Porsche’s Wehrlein and Jaguar’s Mitch Evans all going wide into Turn 1 early on in the session.

    There was trouble for Andretti, as over 15 minutes into the session their new signing Nico Mueller made contact with the wall and was forced to limp back to the pit lane.

    Oliver Rowland also had a brief scrape with the barriers, but emerged unscathed as he pushed his Nissan to the limits.

    Frijns looked comfortable at the top of the timings for most of practice, but with seven minutes to go Mitch Evans went quickest. The times kept tumbling as the grid got to grips with the incredible all-wheel drive.

    FP2-

    Jake Dennis set the pace in the final Free Practice session in his Andretti, clocking in 1m 09.617s – the fastest time of the weekend so far.
    It was a clean but close 40 minute session, with the top 17 cars all separated by less than a second.

    TAG Heuer Porsche’s Antonio Felix da Costa finished the session in second, with Nissan’s Oliver Rowland in third.

    It was a clean first half of the session, with all of the grid heading out and getting laps in as they made the most of the final practice session before qualifying.

    Reigning World Champion Wehrlein was the first driver to reach the 1m 09s. However it wasn’t long before his teammate Antonio Felix da Costa made it a Porsche one-two as he went two-tenths quicker to top the timesheets.

    Nick Cassidy had a moment with the NEOM McLaren of Barnard, with the two going almost wheel to wheel into Turn 1 with six minutes left on the clock.

    Sam Bird also had a big lock-up as he started one of his final laps. The Brit then radioed that he had a problem with the front right of GEN3 Evo, the same palace where he had the issues before.

    Qualifying-

    TAG Heuer Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein took the first Julius Baer Pole position of Season 11, with the reigning champion starting then GEN3 Evo era in the best way possible.
    He will line up alongside the Nissan of Oliver Rowland of Round 1 in Sao Paulo,

    It wasn’t the best session for Jaguar TCS Racing, with none of their powertrains making it into the Duels and Mitch Evans having big problems early on.
    The Kiwi brought the session to a halt when he had a brake system warning in the group stages, and was forced to pull over and stop resulting in a red flag.
    He failed to set a time and will start at the back of the grid, with his teammate Nick Cassidy qualifying in 10th.

    The full top 10 is – Pole: Wehrlein, P2: Rowland, P3: Dennis, P4: Gunther, P5: da Costa, P6: Nato, P7: Mortara, P8: Vergne, P9: Vandoorne and P10: Cassidy.

    Round 1-

    After a short delay with Robin Frijns’ Envision stranded on the grid, and the team informing him there was no time to power cycle, the field eventually reformed and flew away as the lights went out.

    The Nissan of Oliver Rowland got the edge into Turn 1 on polesitter and reigning champion Wehrlein, with Max Guenther in the DS PENSKE squeezing by at Turn 2.
    The pack was three wide through the chicane midway around the lap and the major beneficiary on Lap 1 looked to be Mitch Evans – the Jaguar driver climbing seven spots from 22nd and last to 15th.

    Cassidy, Vandoorne, di Grassi and Barnard too the opportunity to take the first of their two mandatory 50kW ATTACK MODE boosts, driving through the activation zone which in GEN3 Evo, also unlocks four-wheel drive.

    Those that went early looked to be profiting, with Vandoorne climbing to third. On Lap 9, Guenther made the jump for his first boost with the Porsche pair following a lap later.

    Cassidy led Dennis, ROwland, Evans, Guenther, Werhlein, da Costa, Buemi, Vandoorne and Vergne formed the top 10 on Lap 13, with energy remaining among each of them looking pretty even – except Rowland who was 1.6% up on the lead Jaguar.
    The Nissan driver hit the front again on Lap 14, bypassing Cassidy before taking a first two-minute ATTACK MODE on Lap 16.

    Only two laps later, though the Porsches had worked their way in tandem to the front – Wehrlein refusing to yield to his teammate with both in ATTACK as the pair filtered through the first sector.

    Rowland was the one to watch as the race headed into its final third, with six minutes of Attack Mode to make use of with the benefit worth more than two seconds a lap.
    It took him just half a lap to slice by both Porsche’s and retake the lead on Lap 22 down the pit straight.

    Again, Rowland fired away to blast pass da Costa to retake the lead off the line on the restart to a 1.1 second lead on Lap 26 but a penalty of overpower hanging over the Nissan. Rowland had pulled a three-second lead but that penalty would come back to haunt him – a drive through penalty left Cassidy first and Evans second on Lap 30 of 35.
    However, Evans unreal journey from last on the gird was topped off as he fired to the front past his teammate into Turn 1.

    A lap later, da Costa managed to spoilt the Jaguar party and split the pair but contact between Cassidy and Wehrlein on exit of Turn 2 left the champion’s car on its side and in the wall but thankfully okay – another Red Flag with six laps to run.

    On the restart, Evans and da Costa led away a rolling start with the McLarens of Barnard and Bird next up – the former almost 4% up on energy to those around him.

    The full top 10 are- P1: Evans, P2: da Costa, P3: Barnard, P4: Bird, P5: Mortarra, P6: De Vries, P7: Buemi, P8: Ticktum, P9: Vergne and P10: Vandoorne.

  • Kiro sign Ticktum and Beckmann

    Kiro Race Co have announced Dan Ticktum and David Beckmann as their 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship driver pairing.

    As the newest team in Formula E, built on the foundations of former competitor, ERT – itself tracing its roots back to the race-wining NEXTEV and NIO outfits.

    Kiro Race Co has eyes on battling back to the front of the Formula E grid, with Ticktum and Beckmann set to be key to the team’s goals starting at the season-opening Sao Paulo E-Prix this weekend.

    Ticktum, who has competed in Formula E since 2022, reached new heights in Formula E by taking a career-best finish of fourth at Misano in Season 10 and holds extensive success out of the paddock.
    With three wins and 11 podiums in FIA Formula 2 and back to back victories at the Macau Grand Prix in 2017 and 2018.

    For Beckmann, the 2024/25 season will mark his first full time campaign racing in Formula E. Although the German driver is more than familiar with the championship and after holding Test & Reserve Driver roles with Andretti and Porsche since 2021, as well as racing at the Jakarta E-Prix in 2023.

    Beckmann has raced single seaters since 2015 and has been a consistent challenger at every level, with victories in FIA Formula 3, podiums in FIA Formula 2 and one win in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

    It’s clear to me that Kiro Race Co is hungry, ambitious, and ready to make a statement in Formula E, and that’s exactly the kind of environment I thrive in as a racing driver. Over the past few years, I’ve learned first-hand that Formula E is unlike any other form of motorsport – the racing is relentless, the on-track battles are fierce, and it pushes you to your limits, demanding absolutely everything from both the driver, and the team. Ahead of a new season, it’s important to have modest expectations, but in a category as wild as this, there are open opportunities every single lap. After a promising pre-season test, I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to convert this attitude into regular top 10 performances. The atmosphere and energy within the team is very positive, and I can’t wait to get the season started in São Paulo.

    Joining Kiro Race Co’s ranks for my first full season in Formula E is a dream come true, and I’m excited to rise to the challenge. Although I’ll be a rookie this year, I think I’m coming into the season with a unique experience having seen the evolution from Gen2 to Gen3, and again with the GEN3 Evo, first-hand in my past roles with Andretti and Porsche. At testing, my main goal was to get comfortable in the car and integrate myself well in the team, and overall, the week was very encouraging. The whole atmosphere right now is very inspiring, and it feels like we’re all working in the same direction, with one shared goal. I’m really looking forward to Brazil.

    Since announcing Kiro Race Co’s involvement in Formula E for Season 11, we’ve been very transparent with our aims – we want to defy expectations, we want to be consistent top-10 contenders, and we want to redefine what it means to be a racing team. Our driver lineup embodies that mission perfectly. In Dan – who has been described as the best British driver not in F1 – we have an experienced, young athlete who not only has the drive and determination to the be the best, but also has the speed and ability to one day be a World Champion. David’s ambition, meanwhile, is unmistakeable, and although he’ll be a rookie this season, his existing experience in Formula E – which includes two race starts and three seasons as a Reserve Driver – put him in a better position than the majority of drivers who join the series. Season 11 is just the first chapter of our journey in Formula E. There’ll be highs and lows, ups and downs, and we know that success won’t come overnight. We’re only at the start of what will be a long road, but we’re committed to this journey, and we’re excited to see what the coming season has in store.

  • Andretti sign Jak Crawford as Reserve

    Andretti have announced that Jak Crawford has joined the team as its official Reserve and Development Driver for Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

    Crawford joins Season 9 World Champion Jake Dennis and Formula E veteran Nico Mueller to complete Andretti’s lineup for Season 11.

    Crawford returns to the team after an impressive Formula E debut at the 2024 Berlin E-Prix Rookie Test where he demonstrated a strong understanding of the Andretti Porsche 99X Electric finishing the day second overall in classification.

    The American has quickly climbed the motorsport ranks from winning multiple karting championships to competing in Formula 2 with DAMS Lucas Oil and becoming part of the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One team’s Young Driver Development program this year.

    Building on his experience, Crawford will play an integral role in the team’s Gen3 Evo development through simulator development and setup testing at Andretti Formula E’s Banbury headquarters.

    I’m very excited to be the official Reserve and Development Driver for the Andretti Formula E team in Season 11. Growing up in America, Andretti is such a household name in motorsports so it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to be part of the team. I’m keen to learn as much about the car as possible from both Jake and Nico, and to play a role on the development side through simulator work. I’m looking forward to getting started and to hopefully have the chance to get more experience in the car.

    We are very pleased to announce that Jak is taking a more permanent role with the Andretti Formula E team as our Reserve and Development Driver. His debut with us at the Berlin Rookie Test was very impressive and he immediately showed strong pace. When the opportunity of a Reserve and Development Driver arose, Jak was immediately of interest. He has demonstrated a mature approach through his second season in Formula 2, and since his appearance with us, has already achieved a win and three additional podiums. We look forward to his contributions in helping improve the team’s performance though his active role driving the simulator.

  • Season 11 Calendar

    The final calendar for Season 11 is here, following ratification at the FIA’s October meeting of the World Motor Sport Council.

    It marks 16 races across 10 locations around the world with exciting destinations on the horizon – including a return to Miami and double headers in Tokyo and Monaco as well as a first time trip to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

    However the action for Season 11 will kick off with pre-season testing over four days from Tuesday 5th – Friday 8th November in Madrid, Spain.

    This will be the first time we will see all the teams on track with their new GEN3 Evo machinery, putting that rapid race car.
    There is also the inaugural Women’s Test to look forward to, where a grid full of the world’s foremost racers on the planet will test current-gen Formula E machinery in a dedicated session.

    We are excited to deliver the calendar of 16 Formula E races in Season 11 that was announced earlier this year – the same number that led to record-breaking fan and broadcast audience growth globally. Across 10 events we’ll race at several long-standing favourites, with upgrades to double-headers in some locations and some fantastic new venues in key markets. With the arrival of the new GEN3 Evo technology putting our drivers behind the wheel of the fastest cars ever raced in Formula E, we can’t wait to get the season started and couldn’t be more excited about the potential the championship has to thrill and attract new fans. Work is already underway to build and maintain engagement with fans all season long, with more details to be announced in the coming months.

  • Formula E moves pre-season test

    Formula E has cancelled its Valencia pre-season test in the light of the horrific flash flood in the region and will instead head to fellow Spanish circuit Jarama.

    At least 155 people have died in Valencia and its surrounding areas since the devastating floods hit parts of Spain on Wednesday, with that total expected to rise further.

    Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo has hosted Formula E’s pre-season tests since 2017 and this year was due to host the first public outing for the Gen3 Evo car design that will be used for the next two seasons.

    But the damage to some of the circuit’s facilities – notably its main access road – and consideration for the wider situation meant it soon become clear that holding the test there was impossible.

    Its place will instead be taken by the Jarama circuit, approximately 20 miles north of Madrid.
    Running at the former Formula 1 grand prix venue, which is now primarily used for testing and national series, will still take place across four days but commence a day later, running from November 5th to 8th.

    We have all been monitoring the tragic situation in Valencia, where flash floods have devastated the region and claimed many lives. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by these terrible events and we at Formula E are looking at how we can practically support the region during this awful time. Following consultation with local authorities, the FIA and our colleagues at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, we have decided not to proceed with our pre-season test in Valencia, planned for 4-7 November. While it may have been possible to go ahead logistically, it is important not to create any distraction or use valuable resources that are much better served supporting the local community. We have a number of Formula E team members who have been working on the ground in Valencia over the past week, and we want to personally thank them for everything they’ve done, and continue to do, to support the area.  The pre-season test is an important moment in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar ahead of Season 11 starting in Sao Paulo on 6-7 December, as it allows us to check the new Gen3 Evo cars for safety, and also to establish that we can safely and effectively deploy new technologies. We have also planned for the first-ever women’s test to take place during this event. Therefore, we have taken the decision to secure an alternative location, and Circuit del Jarama in Madrid will host both the FIA Formula E Official Test and the Women’s Test next week, scheduled for Tuesday 5 to Friday 8 November. The full event schedule will be confirmed in due course, as we navigate a number of logistical and operational challenges which will determine if it’s possible to move our test operations to Madrid within this timeframe. Our first thoughts are with the community of Valencia. The city has a special place in our hearts: it has been ever-present on our calendar since 2017 and we have recently moved our operations base there. It is like a second home for Formula E. We will support the community to recover from these tragic events in any way we can, and ensure that while our testing continues in Madrid, it is done with the utmost sensitivity.

  • Maloney completes Lola Yamaha ABT Line-Up

    Lola Yamaha ABT will enter its first ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season with one of the grid’s most exciting driver pairings, having confirmed rookie Zane Maloney as the teammate of Lucas di Grassi.

    In combining the driver with the most races in championship history with the rookie confirmed, the team underscores its intent to shake up the status quo and drive the next generation of motorsport talent and technology.

    Born and raised in Barbados, Maloney’s blossoming career has already seen him win the British Formula 4 Championship, finish runner-up in the FIA Formula 3 Championship and was named FIA Rookie of the Year in 2022.

    The 20 year old is currently third in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, and is also a reserve driver for Stake F1 Team KICK Sauber.
    A reserve and development driver for the Andretti team since 2023, Maloney already has experience completing several tests.

    Maloney has already joined the team for testing in Varano, Italy and in the new car in Spain last week.

    The eleventh ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season kicks off in Sao Paulo on 7th December.
    In early November, all teams will gather in Valencia, Spain for the only official test sessions.

Zane is a hugely talented young driver with an abundance of speed and potential and, alongside Lucas, we have an ideal combination of youth and experience. Zane has demonstrated his abilities in a variety of junior categories and proven himself as a race winner, and we’re looking forward to seeing him get behind the wheel in testing, and then at round one in São Paulo.

  • Envision stick with Buemi & Frijns

    Envision Racing are pleased to confirm an unchanged driver line-up for Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
    Sebastien Buemi and Robin Frijns will continue with the team for Season 11.

    After a campaign of highs and lows, both Buemi and Frijns ended Season 10 in extremely positive fashion – bringing home three podiums across the final four races.

    Buemi and Frijns are among the most experienced drivers in Formula E, having competed in 229 races in the championship, with 99 of those while driving for Envision.

    The team is one of the most successful in the sport, having accumulated more podium finishes (53) and points (1723) through 10 seasons than any other competitor.

    In the closing stages of Season 10, Frijns secured a double podium weekend in Portland, where he brought home two second place finishes.
    This was then followed by teammate Buemi clinching the final step of the podium in London.
    The team finished sixth in the overall Teams’ World Championship standings.

    It’s great to have continuity in our driver line-up as Sébastien and Robin lead us into Season 11. Despite Season 10 not being our strongest year, we are confident that the momentum we gained in the closing rounds can be taken into next season and put us back where we want to be.

    I started off Season 10 relatively strong, with a podium in Round 3, however it took some time to adjust to the new car and style of racing. We worked extremely hard to make that adjustment and by the end were fighting at the front again, so our focus now is on continuing that into next season.

  • Nato joins Rowland at Nissan

    Nissan will pair Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato for the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

    Following a fruitful partnership in the Gen2 era, Rowland enjoyed a strong Season 10 with the team. The British driver took two victories, including a home win in the final race of the year.
    In addition to two Julius Baer Pole Positions and five further podiums on his way to fourth in the standings.

    Not only this, Formula E race winner, Norman Nato will be returning to the Japanese squad, having previously raced in cherry blossom during Season 9 (2022/23).

    The French driver was a regular in the points, securing the team’s first podium finish under full Nissan ownership at the 2023 Rome E-Prix. Nato will be replacing Sacha Fenestraz.

    I’m excited to continue with Nissan Formula E Team after a very strong year. It’s been great to have some time off, I’ve been training and working with the team which has been positive. For next season we need to try and bring more consistency to all elements of our race weekends, whether that’s in qualifying or car development. Last year, we executed some races perfectly, so for this season we have to maintain that progress and improve the small bits we can to continue moving further up the order. I’ve known Norman for a few years, he’s very experienced and knows the team well, and I’m looking forward to working together. The GEN3 Evo car will be a challenge for everyone on the grid, so it’s a chance for us to maximize our performance and start the season on the front foot. I also want to give my best to Sacha, I enjoyed working with him during Season 10 and hope to see him back on the grid soon.

    I’m really happy to be back with the team. We ended Season 9 strongly together and I’m looking to pick up where we left off. We will be aiming to perform straight away, so the fact I know the car and the team will be helpful. Oli proved how quick he is last season, we’ve been battling on track since Formula Renault 2.0 but never been teammates! I’m sure we will get along well and hopefully we can share some podiums together. It will be interesting to see how the car has improved, and the goal is clear. We want to win races and championships. Finally, I wish Sacha all the best, he’s a top guy and it’s never easy to replace someone you previously partnered with. I’m sure we will be racing each other again very soon.

    We’re excited for Season 11 after a very good performance in the last campaign. We’ve refreshed our driver line-up by welcoming back Norman, who will bring his wealth of experience and performance. Norman knows the team well and showed his talent when he was previously with us. His feedback and insight are valuable and he has a track record of developing cars, so we are delighted to see him return. Oli had a fantastic Season 10, and we’re confident he can continue at that level. We believe that Norman and Oli will form a strong pairing, both are team players and will do their best to help us improve throughout the upcoming year. At the same time and while it hasn’t been an easy decision, we have to say goodbye to Sacha. He has been a fundamental part of the establishment and development of Nissan Formula E Team, and we thank him for his hard work and his ever positive attitude.   • Porsche announces Season 11 drivers

    Porsche will again field our newest Champion Pascal Wehrlein alongside Season 6 title-winner Antonio Felix da Costa in Formula E Season 11.

    Season 10 was beyond memorable for the German giants, as Wehrlein steered the team to a maiden Formula E title in the London finale.
    Crowning a best season to date in electric motorsport’s top tier since the Stuggart marque joined the fold back in 2019/20.

    The team wound up second in the Teams’ running, just four points shy of winner Jaguar TCS Racing, and finished second to the Jaguar squad in the Manufacturers’ Trophy.

    Da Costa fought off mid-season speculation to tear to a storming run of four wins in five between Berlin and Portland to place him in title contention heading into London.

    The pair will get behind of Porsche’s take on the Gen3 Evo – the latest evolution of Formula E car set to hit the track in Season 11 with a maiden outing coming at the Valencia test in November.

  • Guenther to drive for DS PENSKE

    DS PENSKE have confirmed that Maximilian Guenther will drive for the team from Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

    The German driver joins DS PENSKE’s double champion Jean-Eric Vergne driving for the team through the 2024/25 campaign.

    Guenther first joined the team in Season 4, when team owner Jay Penske offered him a debut seat in the championship.

    Since then, the 27 year old has gone on to secure five wins and 10 podiums across 83 races since, representing the likes of BMW Andretti and Maserati along the way.

    Guenther’s teammate Vergne holds a number of records – including for most points scored in Formula E history, the Frenchman having been a part of 130 of 132 races since Season 1.

    The team sealed four podiums and third place in the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, improving two berths on Season 9’s result.

    I’m very happy to be joining DS PENSKE. A powerhouse in the championship and a project with strong vision. We share the same ambitions and are all driven to be at the top of Formula E. Representing DS Performance, a manufacturer which has won several championships already is a real privilege.   • Barnard joins Bird at McLaren for Season 11

    NEOM McLaren has confirmed Sam Bird and Taylor Barnard for the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

    Barnard has been Reserve and Development driver at NEOM McLaren and had his first competitive experience behind the wheel of Formula E machinery for the team across the 2024 Monaco E-Prix and Berlin E-Prix, stepping in last-minute for the injured Sam Bird.

    Finishing those races in 14th, 10th and eight respectively, Barnard impressed – becoming the youngest points-scorer in Formula E history at the age of 19.

    Barnard entered single seater racing in 2020. On his way up the motorsport ladder, the Brit became 2022 ADAC Formula 4 runner-up as well as the 2023 Formula Regional Middle East Championship runner-up.

    In 2023, during his debut season in FIA Formula 3, he took his maiden victory in the championship at Spa-Francorchamps.

    In 2024 Barnard shared duties in FIA Formula 2 with AIX Racing alongside his role as Reserve and Development Driver for NEOM McLaren.

    Following his first season with NEOM McLaren, Bird will be continuing with the team for Season 11.
    The 37 year old has competed in Formula E since Season 1 and is one of only five drivers to have done so.

    Bird is among the most successful drivers on the grid with 12 wins, 26 podiums and six Julius Baer Pole Positions to his name over the course of those 10 season.

    Bird secured the team’s first and only win to date in Formula E with last lap heroics at the 2024 Sao Paulo E-Prix one of the series’ most memorable.

    I am delighted to be racing for the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team in Season 11. In Season 10, I was the team’s Reserve and Development Driver and during that time I learnt a lot, putting my new knowledge into practice in Monaco and Berlin. I am excited to race alongside Sam this season, and I am sure I will learn a lot from him. He is one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, and I hope that together we can score plenty of points and collect some trophies for the team. It’s an amazing opportunity to be able to continue the journey with the team as full-time Formula E driver, and I can’t wait to get started.

  • Andretti signs Mueller for Season 11

    Nico Mueller will be making the switch to Andretti for the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship campaign.

    Mueller joins ahead of Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship alongside confirmed teammate and Season 9 World Champion, Jake Dennis.

    The Swiss driver joins the team following Norman Nato’s exit piloting the Andretti Porsche 99X Electric machine in his fifth season of Formula E competition as the series enters its GEN3 Evo era.

    Mueller finished Season 10 strong with a streak of four top-six finishes to round out his fourth Formula E campaign and best finish in the Drivers’ World Championship standings.

    Outperforming the machinery underneath him on more than once occasion, with his former ABT CUPRA teammate and Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi scoring only four points to Mueller’s 52.

    In his 46 Formula E starts, the 32 year old has one podium finish (Valencia, Season 7) two fastest laps and has led 13 laps.
    In addition to his Formula E success dating back to his official rookie test in Marrakesh, Mueller has served as an official Audi factory driver, won the prestigious Nurburgring 24h and fought for the DTM title twice (2019, 2020) winning nine races and standing on the podium 24 times.

    Adding to the Swiss driver’s varied racing career, he has also competed in the World Endurance Championship, World Rallycross, GT Series and Stock Car racing.

    I’m very excited to join the Andretti Formula E Team. It’s a team that has seen success from the very beginning of the championship, particularly in the GEN3 era in their partnership with Porsche Motorsport. To work with Jake, a former World Champion is an honour and I’m looking forward to the opportunity. I’m going to give it my very best to contribute to the team’s success and hopefully aim for some podiums and my first Formula E win – that’s the target. I can’t wait to get going.

  • Nato and Andretti part ways

    Andretti has announced that Norman Nato will be leaving the team.
    Nato joined Andretti for Season 10, making the move from Nissan.

    The Frenchman secured a season-best result of third place his first and only podium for the American team on Formula E’s return to Shanghai in May.

    Nato finished the season in 15th in the Drivers’ World Championship on 47 points. Eight positions and 75 points lower than teammate Dennis managed.

    The team have indicated that they will make its 2024/25 line-up clear in the next few days, with Season 9 Champion Jake Dennis now set to be partnered by a fresh driver to the team.

    However, Andretti is a Porsche customer team, and it is rumoured that Mueller is expected to move to the manufacturer after testing with it earlier in the year.
    He subsequently left both ABT Cupra in Formula E, and vacated his Peugeot seat in the World Endurance Championship.

  • Lucas di Grassi to race with ABT Lola

    Season 3 champion Lucas di Grassi will continue his long association with the ABT team as it heads into Season 11 as ABT Lola.

    The Brazilian and the German team have extended their 10-year cooperation to enter a new era together and from next season.

    ABT CUPRA will form a team with Lola Cars, using a powertrain developed by the iconic British brand together with Yamaha Motor Company.

    Di Grassi has competed in 131 Formula E races, more than any other driver and is among the most successful – with an unparalleled 47 podiums alongside that Drivers’ title to his name.

    The Brazilian has turned the first wheel of the new era himself, in mid-June at the shakedown of the Lola Yamaha race car in the UK – the first outing for the new GEN3 Evo design with a newly-developed powertrain.

    After a one-year break, ABT returned to Formula E at the beginning of 2023 with CUPRA as its partner and has since started with a powertrain from Mahindra Racing.

    The new set-up will see ABT continue to leverage its extensive experience to run the operations of the race team, with specialist support from Lola as manufacturer.

    ABT Lola will decide in the coming weeks who will take the second cockpit alongside di Grassi, before all teams meet for the official test in Valencia, Spain.

    We are delighted to continue our journey in Formula E with Lucas. Not only is he a great ambassador for our team and the entire championship, but like all of us, he is eager and fully motivated to finally be successful again. We know that working with a new manufacturer brings many challenges. This makes it all the more important for us to have the most experienced driver at our side in Lucas, in addition to the permanent members of the team.

  • ABT CUPRA confirm Mueller’s departure

    Nico Mueller won’t be racing for the ABT CUPRA from Gen3 Evo onwards, as the German team shared the news of his departure ahead of the London race weekend.

    Mueller, who currently sits 14th in the standings has been a part of the team since Season 9. He experienced a season best result of fourth in Misano earlier this year, narrowly missing out on the podium, and finished in fifth and sixth respectively in Portland last time out.

    Nico Mueller, has been a part of the ABT family for a long time, driving for them in DTM from 2016 until 2020, and was twice runner-up in the championship.

    He then joined ABT CUPRA for Season 9, as the all-electric championship embarked on its Gen3 era.

    Nico has decided to take on a new motorsport challenge and leave the team. It was our wish to keep Nico in the team and to be successful with him again. Now we have to accept his decision and wish him all the best for the future. On behalf of the whole team, I would like to thank Nico for his commitment and dedication. Of course we would all have liked to have seen more success, but even in these difficult times he has always led the way and shown strong performances. Nico remains part of the ABT family and is always welcome here.

    This is going to be a very special weekend for me. On the one hand I’m looking forward to the location, the track and the fans. On the other hand, I feel melancholy and a lot of gratitude after two years in this team. It was an extremely challenging time, but it also brought us closer together. We’ve always pulled together and I’m sure this is what we will be doing in London for the last time. We want to give it our all with the whole team, enjoy the days and try to get two good results. London is a cool track – very tight, with indoor and outdoor sections and walls, as we know from Formula E. I will give everything to make the team proud again one more time.

  • FIA confirm Formula E Manufacturers’ Title

    The all-electric championship’s governing body is set to introduce an official Manufacturers’ title from the Gen3 Evo era.

    There will be even more to fight for next year, as the FIA is creating the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship title for Manufacturers.

    Formula E boasts one of the most impressive and competitive manufacturer line-ups in motorsport and will be home to seven manufacturers from Season 11, including Electric Racing Technologies, Jaguar, Mahindra Racing, Nissan, Porsche, Stellantis and new addition Lola Cars. Between them, they will be powering 11 teams across the grid.

    The scoring for this trophy mirrors that of the Teams’ Championship with points awarded based on the performance of each manufacturer’s two highest-scoring cars in every race.

    So, first place will be awarded 25 points, second place gets 18 points and third gets 15 points, etc. Points for the Julius Baer Pole Position and Fastest Lap are also factored into the totals.

    Formula E had introduced the Manufacturer’s Trophy for Season 10, to celebrate the leading manufacturers in the championship.
    However in a recent World Motorsport Council meeting, it was confirmed that this will be recognised as an official FIA trophy.

    In the WMSC meeting, it was also shared that the Technical Regulations have been updated to allow for the use of four-wheel drive on the Gen3 Evo car in specific scenarios such as qualifying duels, race start and Attack Mode from the 2024 -2025 season onwards.

For the first time in our series’ history, manufacturers will be able to compete for the coveted Manufacturers’ Title, where their best performing cars will contribute to a season-long leaderboard.   • Season 11 Calendar Confirmed

    Formula E has announced its provisional calendar for Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, with the largest number of races and locations set for a season, following validation of the FIA World Motorsport Council.

    Formula E will complete a 17 race season for the first time in its history spanning 17 iconic venues as it continues to pioneer all-electric racing.

    New race locations in Miami and Diriyah; a double header of separate races in Monaco – a first for the principality; a double header of races in Tokyo; and the return of Jakarta.

    The Season 11 campaign will begin in Sao Paulo on the 7th December 2024, with pre-season testing on the 4th-7th November 2024 in Valencia.
    It will be the first time all-new GEN3 Evo race car will be put through its paces and tested in public, capable of 0-60mph in just 1.82s – 36% faster than the current Gen3.

    A new venue in Diriyah will host the first double header of the season on 14th-15th February, while the series returns to Miami for the first time since Season 1 in an all-new location on 12th April 2025.
    The Homestead-Miami Speedway venue draws on its heritage and success in hosting thrilling NASCAR and IndyCar races for decades.

    One location has been included as TBC while final discussions with a new venue take place, ahead of the confirmed calendar announcement due in the autumn following the FIA’s World Motorsport Council Meeting.

    For Season 11 we’re taking electric racing to the next level and doing things never been done before in motorsport. Our world-leading GEN3 EVO will debut in front of hundreds of millions of fans around the globe, while adding two brand new locations and combinations of double-headers to grow our sport further. The new and improved calendar offers a perfect blend of circuits for drivers to push their upgraded cars to the limit, while staying true to our street racing DNA and the on-track action it produces.

  • Formula E & FIA unveil Gen3 Evo

    Formula E and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have revealed the next generation of race car, the new all-electric Gen3 Evo, capable of 0-60mph in 1.82s.

    Leveraging a roster of innovative technical upgrades, the GEN3 Evo unveiled at H.S.H Prince Albert II’s Private Car Collection will debut in Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship where some of the world’s greatest manufacturers and drivers race wheel to wheel in iconic locations around the globe.

    Developed by specialists from Formula E and the FIA, the latest Gen3 Evo edition marks a significant leap in electric racing technology, with acceleration 0-60mph 30% faster than a current F1 car, and 36% faster than then Gen3 car.

    Capable of accelerating nearly a full second faster than its predecessor – the Gen3 – that was the world’s first race car designed for street racing, it sets an even higher standard in performance, sustainability and efficiency.
    Then Gen3 Evo serves as a formidable ambassador for the future of motorsport, embodying cutting-edge advancements and a commitment to environmental responsibility.

    Key technical enhancements for the new Gen3 Evo race car include:

    • The quickest accelerating FIA single-seater race car – capable of 0-60mph in 1.82 seconds.
    • Faster, stronger, more agile – Performance upgrades providing an estimated 2% performance gain from Gen3.
    • Leaner and meaner – An aggressive new body kit designed to be stronger, more robust and more aerodynamic, delivering closer wheel to wheel racing.
    • All wheel driver (AWD) – A first for a Formula E car, available during qualifying duels, race starts and ATTACK MODE. The feature maximises acceleration and control, elevating the thrill of critical race moments and intensifying driver rivalries,
    • Better grip – Optimised all-weather Hankook iON tyres providing 5-10% more grip.

    As part of the technical roadmap of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, all powertrains will be newly homologated for Season 11, allowing manufacturers and their customer teams to implement key learnings and optimisations from Gen3 into their new cars.

  • ABT to partner with Lola and Yamaha from Season 11

    ABT have confirmed their entry for Gen3 EVO, starting next season, alongside newly-registered powertrain manufacturer Lola Cars, in technical partnership with Yamaha Motor Company.

    After a brief hiatus, the title-winning ABT team re-joined the Formula E grid in 2023 for Season 10 alongside CUPRA as its partner, equipped with a Mahindra Racing powertrain.

    The contract with Mahindra has since been mutually terminated, coming to an end at the end of the current season. ABT now enters into a fresh alliance with motorsport icons.

    Preparations for the launch are well underway at Lola and Yamaha, with software refinement and hardware testing in progress on the dyno. The inaugural on-track shakedown of the powertrain is scheduled for June, Further updates, including the unveiling of a title partner, additional sponsors, team structure and nomenclature, driver line-up and car design will all be disclosed in the coming months.

    ABT is among Formula E’s most successful outfits, with Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler winners of the Drivers’ title at the hands of Lucas di Grassi in 2017/17 and the Teams’ Championship in 2017/18.
    The German outfit has been part of Formula E from the very first race in Beijing and has 47 podium finishes and more than 1,400 points to its name.

  • Lola Cars returns to top tier Motorsport with Yamaha

    Lola Cars have announced that it is returning to global motorsport in a multi-year technical partnership with Yamaha Motor Company and will enter the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from Season 11.

    The iconic, globally renowned motorsport brand. which has more than 500 championship wins, is working with Yamaha to develop and supply a powertrain to compete in the world’s first all-electric, single seater race series.

    With track racing deep in the DNA of both Lola Cars and Yamaha, this new partnership not only provides an opportunity to join the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as it moves to the Gen3 Evo platform for the 2024/25 season but also creates opportunities across global motorsport and in the broader zero emissions transportation space.

    Founded by Eric Broadley in 1958, Lola Cars has designed and produced nearly 5000 race cars spanning 400 different model types, gaining unparalleled success in motorsport championships around the world, including:
    IndyCarm Le Mans, Formula 1, Can-Am, Formula 3000, Formula 5000, A1GP, Formula Ford and Touring Cars.

    This partnership continues Lola Cars’ longstanding prominence in Japan. Lola Cars has a long history of involvement in Japanese motorsport, primarily in what is now known as the Japanese Super Formula CHampionship, winning 13 Championships in two decades from 1987 when it was known as the All Japan F3000.

    We are thrilled to confirm our entry in Formula E. For us, this is more than just an opportunity to return Lola to the track, it’s also a fantastic platform for technological development. Lola Cars has a decorated history of success in chassis and aerodynamic design. This project will allow us to create a unique electrified platform with a software focus at its core to provide a basis for Lola’s wider plans in defining the future of motorsport technology.
