  • Porsche Motorsport announce additional entry

Porsche Motorsport has announced that from Season 13 (2026/27) onwards, the German manufacturer plans to field two teams under its own marque, to compete in the Formula E World Championship marking its ambitions in top-level motorsport.

With the two additional cars raced by Porsche, plus a customer team, a total of three teams would be supported by the Porsche 99X Electric package, demonstrating the German manufacturer’s commitment to the championship and furthering the development of electric technology.

Porsche’s additional entry would consolidate the grid for the beginning of the Gen4 era, where they would be joined by four other confirmed manufacturers – Jaguar, Nissan, Stellantis and Lola Cars – a strong indicator of the health of the Formula E Championship.

Porsche’s success in the all-electric series can also be seen in the transfer of race to road technology, with improvements in direct oil cooling and energy recuperation developed in Formula E deployed in their Porsche Cayenne road car.

Porsche has competed in Formula E since Season 6 (2019/20). It’s factory team has since secured 13 wins and 32 podiums as well as a Drivers’ and a Teams’ World Championship.

Motorsport shapes our brand. Our heritage in traditional motorsport is unique and is reflected in every Porsche. In the future, we want to be able to say the same about electric motorsport. Compared to other racing series, Formula E offers a very attractive balance between effort and return. It also gives us the opportunity to further develop technical solutions that are relevant to our production sports cars. Among other things, we want to use this adaptation to find and promote new talent at all levels, not just drivers. In marketing the additional cars, we want to create as much independence as possible and not simply expand our existing presence. Next year marks 75 years of Porsche Motorsport – a success story that shall be shaped by a wide variety of stories from electric motorsport in the future.
Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport.

The commitment by Porsche to acquire an additional license from Season 13 (2026/27) of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship demonstrates significant strength in our series and its dedication to innovation and electrification at the pinnacle of motorsport. Porsche has been an important part of the Formula E family since 2019, during which time they have been successful in securing Teams’, Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ World Championships. They are a proven success in transfer of race to road technology, with their road cars boasting innovations that have been developed directly from the race track in Formula E. With the significant performance advancements planned for the GEN4 cars, the grid for the 2026/27 season is already looking strong.
Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E.

  • Mueller joins Wehrlein at Porsche

Pascal Wehrlein will be joined by Nico Mueller at Porsche for Season 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The 33 year old Swiss driver Mueller moves from Porsche customer team Andretti to the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer’s factory Formula E team.

He succeeds Antonio Felix da Costa, the Portuguese driver having contributed significantly to the success of the Porsche Formula E Team over three years.

Wehrlein, Drivers’ World Champion for the 2023/24 season, has been part of the Porsche Formula E Team since August 2020.
Mueller joined the factory driver line-up in August 2024 and competed last season as a regular driver in the Porsche 99X for Andretti.

Both drivers have already been conducting development work in the simulator in recent weeks for Season 13, when the fourth generation of Formula E cars will debut.

Preparations for the first drives at the end of the year are underway at the Porsche centre in Weissach. Parallel to the GEN4 development, Porsche is embarking on the final season with the current, third-generation car, which begins on December 6th with the opening race in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

I’m incredibly proud of this step and thank Porsche Motorsport for their trust. My last season wasn’t easy, but it was all the more instructive – that motivates me tremendously to repay the team’s trust on the track. I’m looking forward to getting to know the team even more and I am convinced that Pascal and I will form a strong duo. I want to contribute as quickly as possible to helping the team build on its recent successes.
    Mueller on the news.

I am delighted that we continue to have one of the strongest driver pairings in the field. Pascal is, of course, a well-known figure. Nico has been able to familiarise himself with the Porsche 99X Electric at Andretti during the previous season and is therefore well prepared when he gets into the factory car. Our goals for the upcoming season remain the same: We want to fight for all three titles at the finale in London next year.
Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport.

  • Da Costa part ways with Porsche

Porsche have announced that Antonio Felix da Costa will leave the team ahead of Season 12.

Da Costa is one of a handful of drivers to have competed in Formula E from the very first season back in 2014/15.
The season 6 champion celebrated five race wins and helped the German manufacturer to the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ World Championship in Season 11.

Highlights include his unforgettable move in Cape Town, 2023, which sealed his first win with Porsche.
In 2024, he clinched Porsche’s first home victory at the Berlin E-Prix. That same season, after an early setback, the 34 year old impressively fought back and claimed four wins – more than any other driver on the grid.

With these performances, da Costa played a significant role in all three titles won by the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team.

I’m happy that it happened instead of being sad that it ends. I raced for one of the most prestigious brands in the world – that’s an honour for me, and I’m proud that this will forever be a part of my career. I’ve been part of the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team for its three most successful years, and I want to thank every single person that I got to work with during this time. This includes the management with Thomas and Florian, as well as the board. A special thank you goes out to my mechanics and my engineers, who accompanied me on this road. Obrigado!
    Da Costa on the news.

After the title wins in London in July, Porsche has reached the pinnacle of electric motorsport – and that is very much thanks to António’s performances. He played a decisive role in enabling us to reach that achievement. Moments like his overtaking manoeuvre in Cape Town and our first home victory in Berlin will remain in our memories and are part of Porsche’s history in Formula E. We’re proud of all of this, and I’d like to thank him for it. I also greatly appreciated his consistently positive and relaxed manner. I hope to meet António again soon in paddocks around the world and wish him all the best for his future.
Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport.

In three very intense years with us, António proved his class – with five victories in the Porsche 99X Electric. He impressed everyone in the team above all with his racecraft, how he could read the race and work his way forward. I thank António for his achievements, but also for his direct and transparent approach, as well as the appreciation he showed to every single person in the team. My thanks also go to his mechanics and engineers; they worked extremely hard to help him regain his qualifying strength. Only then were we able to become Teams’ and Manufacturers’ World Champions in July. We wish António all the best.
Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E.

  • Porsche commits to Gen4

Porsche has committed to Formula E until at least 2030.
Formula E has announced that Porsche has committed at least an additional four years to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Ahead of the 2024 Shanghai E-Prix, Porsche AG and Porsche Motorsport alongside Formula E and the FIA have confirmed Porsche’s registration to continue to be a manufacturer in the World Championship from Seasons 13 to 16, committing their involvement until at least 2030.

This decision ensures that the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer will be on the grid when the next generation of vehicles, known as Gen4, debuts in the all electric racing series.
With features like all-wheel drive that can be activated at certain points in the race, the new generation presents an additional technical challenge for the teams.

Gen4 will be introduced in Season 13 (2026/2027) providing manufacturers with greater scope for development and offering valuable insights for their series production.

This announcement aligns with the long-term goals of Formula E, the FIA, and Porsche for electrification and innovation in the automotive industry, both on and off the track.
The landmark agreement highlights a sustained partnership focused on advancing electric racing technology, showcasing the dedication of all three organisations in pushing the boundaries of electric mobility and sustainability worldwide.

Furthermore, it solidifies Porsche’s position as one of the pioneering Formula E manufacturers, ready to embrace the championship’s exciting Gen4 phase, ahead of its official debut.

  • Andretti & Porsche partnership to continue

Andretti has announced that the team will be extending its partnership with Porsche Motorsport through Season 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The extended collaboration will see Andretti continue to use the Porsche 99X Electric and underscores the outfit’s commitment to leveraging Porsche’s renowned expertise and technology for future success in the all-electric racing series.

Since joining forces at the start of Season 9, the Porsche 99X has yielded a Drivers’ World Championship, three race wins, 15 podium finishes, five fastest laps, 112 laps led and a total of 365 points in Andretti colours.

The Porsche-powered teams of TAG Heuer Porche and Andretti has also yielded 209 points jointly scored in the newly-established Manufacturers trophy, which the German manufacturer currently leads.

The relationship between Andretti and Porsche Motorsport precedes the announcement of then GEN3 agreement.
The partnership dates back to 1983, when Mario and Michael Andretti debuted at Le Mans in a Porsche 956, marking the beginning of shared victories including podium finishes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

It’s an exciting time to be a part of Formula E and we feel confident in our position in the series, which is due in large part to our partnership with Porsche. From day one our goal has been to win races and championships, and Porsche has helped us achieve both since joining forces in Season 9. With all the success we’ve shared with the GEN3 car, I can’t wait to see what we can do together in the GEN3 Evo era.
Michael Andretti, Chairman and CEO of Andretti Global.

We are very pleased to announce the extension of the Andretti and Porsche agreement to work together for the next two seasons. There was never any doubt in our mind about who we’d want to be working with. We have had a very special relationship with Porsche Motorsport, both on and off the track, and we have seen an awful lot of success together. Hopefully, we can share more success in the future.
    Roger Griffiths, Andretti Team Principal.

We are obviously very pleased about the continuation of our partnership. he Andretti name is one of the most renowned in global motorsports, so the contract extension is of particular importance to us. Andretti and the Porsche factory team work together in many areas in Formula E. We drive each other to peak performances. The standings at the halfway mark are proof for this: both teams find themselves in the top three, and so do two of the four drivers. Plus, together we are leading the Manufacturer’s Trophy for Porsche.
Thomas Laudenback, Vice President, Porsche Motorsport.

We have enjoyed working with the Andretti team since we partnered up for the GEN3 era, and we are more than happy to continue to do so for GEN3 Evo. It’s also thanks to Andretti that the Porsche 99X Electric has had great results over the last one and half seasons, including Jake Dennis’ World Championship win. The exchange between the two teams contributes to the car’s performance, and that’s exactly what we’re all looking for. To enter GEN3 Evo in a well-working partnership makes me very optimistic for Seasons 11 and 12.
Florian Modlinger, Director of Porsche Factory Motorsport.

Porsche also confirmed it will continue to play and active role in shaping the successful future of Formula E and is already involved in the design of Gen4 from Season 13.

This season has been the most successful for Porsche since it entered Formula E. Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa have won four of the 14 races to date, with Wehrlein running for the title too.

  • Porsche set to enter F1, 50% stake in RB

Details of Porsche’s Formula 1 entry have been revealed in legal documents, with an announcement expected early next month.

A document from the Conseil de la Concurrence in Morocco has set out Porsche’s intentions to purchase 50% of the Red Bull Formula 1 operation which would make them equal partners in a 10 year agreement, reported by Motorsport-total.

The document, reportedly submitted by Porsche AG and Red Bull GmbH, contains details of Porsche’s plans to buy half of Red Bull Technology. Antitrust regulations require authorities within the EU and 20 countries outside the EU must see the agreement, and details are reportedly set to be released by the Moroccan authorities as part of its legislative requirement to publish such agreements once they are agreed.

Only Red Bull Technology is mentioned in the document, although an agreement will in all likelihood include AlphaTauri in being supplied with Porshe power, with the sister Red Bull team, remaining fully in Red Bull’s hands.

The partnership between Red Bull and Porsche has long been rumoured to have been in the pipeline, with the German marque set to confirm their entry into Formula 1 once the 2026 engine regulations have been finalised and approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

There had been lots of previous reports of an official announcement of the Red Bull-Porsche deal would come at the Austrian Grand Prix, but was delayed as the future engine formula was not fully agreed at the last World Motor Sport Council meeting at the end of June.

Meanwhile, reports of Audi lodging a bid to purchase a majority share of the Sauber Group persist, although Porsche’s fellow Volkswagen Group brand is not said to be as far along in finalising how their proposed involvement in Formula 1 will take shape.

  • Avalanche Andretti to be powered by Porsche

Avalanche Andretti Formula E took to social media to announce that they will be joining forces with Porsche from the start of Season 9.

Porsche will provide the powertrains and other support services for the Andretti team, under a long-term agreement.

The agreement will bring the Andretti name and Porsche brand together for the first time since 2008, when the late John Andretti carried the Porsche emblem for the Daytona 24 Hours.

The manufacturer and family share a storied past, which includes a run at Le Mans that saw the father-son pairing of Mario and Michael Andretti as teammates for one of motorpsort’s most iconic races.

Our Formula E journey began with Season 1 and we’re very proud to now be looking ahead to the next generation of the sport. Avalanche Andretti FE has an ambition to win, and with the support of Porsche, we have full confidence in our performance and growth. The agreement is an important step in our future and commitment to our sport, partners, and fans. Our history with Porsche as two historic racing teams means this collaboration was a natural fit, and we look forward to a new chapter starting in 2023.

Michael Andretti, CEO and Chairman Andretti Autorsport.

Season 9 will be an important year for our team and the series. It was vital that we made a strong choice in our powertrain provider in preparation for this new chapter and exciting generation of car – and we have that in Porsche. We are looking forward to starting Gen3 as a formidable competitor. We remain focused on the rest of this season, we continue our powertrain relationship with BMW, who have been a valued partner to our team and will support us until the end of this season. We’ve had many successes together through the years and thank them for both their partnership and friendship.

Roger Griffiths, Team Principle Avalanche Andretti Formula E.

It’s important for us to support a customer team that demonstrates the same passion and professionalism in Formula E as we do. Avalanche Andretti has raced in Formula E since the inaugural 2014 season. For us, it’s a huge vote of confidence that one of the most experienced teams has chosen to work alongside Porsche from Season 9 onwards and wants to field two Porsche 99X Electric racers. Porsche and Andretti are united by a long tradition, and it all started when Mario and Michael made their Le Mans debuts in a Porsche 956 in 1983. We’re delighted that the tradition is continuing in Formula E, and we hope our partnership will be just as successful.

Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport.
  • Audi & Porsche to enter Formula 1

After months of speculation, Volkswagen’s chief executive, Herbert Diess has confirmed that Audi and Porsche will be entering Formula 1 in 2026.

It seems that Porsche’s plans are a little more certain at this early stage- which may see them link up with Red Bull for an engine programme.

Since last summer when both became involved in talks over F1’s next generation of engines from 2026, Audi and Porsche who are both apart of the Volkswagen group have been linked with joining the grid quite a lot.

Unofficial confirmation occurred in early April, as reported by Reuters, who are now attributing the official word to chief executive Diess in a Youtube video. There were not however any specific details although Reuters reported that Porsche “intends to establish a long-term partnership”.

Reuters are also sticking to their story from March that Audi have out a bid of 500 million euros for the McLaren team, which if accepted would enable them to enter Formula 1 as a constructor rather than an engine manufacturer. But Zak Brown shut down the not for sale talks but that ‘vert preliminary’ talks with VW had taken place.

McLaren aren’t the only potential option for Audi, Sauber operators of the Alfa Romeo branded team were close to selling to Andretti Autosport last year and already have a connection to Audi whose Le Mans cars were developed in the wind tunnel at Hinwil. It is also feasible that Williams’ owners Dorilton Capital could be interested in a deal.
