MP Motorsport have confirmed the signing of Gabriele Mini for the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season.
Mini is set to return for a second full campaign in the Championship after a 2025 season that saw him achieve three podiums, and finish 13th in the Standings with 72 points.
Prior to that, the Italian achieved his maiden F2 podium in his debut weekend in the Baku Sprint Race back in 2024, finishing third. That same year, Mini finished second in the Formula 3 Drivers’ Championship.

The 20 year old is now set to return for another season in F2, and spoke of his delight at the opportunity to do that with MP.
I’m very excited to be able to join MP Motorsport for my second full season in FIA Formula 2. Their drivers have been strong rivals all throughout my career in single-seaters, and definitely in F2 as well, so it’s good to be switching to their side for next year! I know it’s a Dutch team, but teaming up with MP is some sort of homecoming as well, as their engineering team is led by three highly regarded Italians who have won several titles in Formula 2 and know all about winning. I can’t wait to get to work with them and the rest of the team, and head out to Melbourne fully prepared for our first race together. Mini on the news.
It’s wonderful news that Gabriele will be part of our FIA Formula 2 line-up in 2026. He was a champion in his first season in F4 and a title contender in FRECA and F3, so his natural talent is up there with the best. With Gabriele on board, now with a full year’s experience of F2 behind his belt, we aim to consistently challenge for wins in 2026. Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport Team Principal.

I’m truly delighted to stay with MP Motorsport for my second year in FIA Formula 2. Over the years, the team has become a second home away from home for me, and through all the adversity our bond has only grown stronger this year. Now having experienced a full season of F2, my plan is to capitalise on all the knowledge that I’ve gained over the year and build on that with the experienced engineering crew at MP. First I’m aiming to give this season the best possible finish, and then it’s full speed ahead to 2026! Goethe on the news.
We’re all very happy that Ollie has decided to join us for another season in F2. It’s been a true delight working with him, and the fact that we know each through and through will only be an additional benefit going into 2026. Ollie scored some good points this year, but on several occasions fate agonisingly decided otherwise. Next season’s FIA Formula 2 Championship will be as fiercely competitive as ever, but we will start 2026 prepared to the teeth, with the aim of forcing luck to fall our way. MP Motorsport Team Principal, Sander Dorsman.
Tuukka Taponen will return for a second season in Formula 3 next year, making the move to MP Motorsport for the 2026 campaign.

Giusti on the news.
It’s wonderful to be able to announce Alessandro for 2026 straight after our 2025 Formula 3 season ended at Monza this weekend. His debut year in F3 has shown all the hallmarks of a quick learner who is set to shine in the all-important second season in the category. This year, we have built a strong foundation with Alessandro and I look forward to seeing our work bear fruit in 2026. Along with Mattia, we now have two immensely talented young drivers on our FIA F3 squad for next season that will help us to retain our position in the top ranks of the Teams’ championship. Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport Team Principal.

Joining the Grand Prix weekends as a Formula 3 driver is a dream come true, and I’m looking to forward to building on the amazing working relationship that MP and I have developed in the past two seasons. I’m truly grateful to Helmut Marko and Red Bull for allowing me to demonstrate my racing skills in FIA F3, while staying with MP is the obvious choice. They have become my family in the past two years and have helped me grow as a driver. I believe that working with them in Formula 3 will be just as enjoyable and successful. Colnaghi on the news.
Moving up to FIA F3 with Mattia is a proud moment for us as a team. We immediately recognised his talent when he joined us as a young teenager in the winter of 2023-’24, and it was a joy to see that talent truly accelerate in Spanish F4, resulting in title-winning glory in his first year out of karts. This year, he has been outstanding again, also proving his qualities as a sportsman when the going got tough. We will continue to work hard for our Eurocup-3 title contenders this year, including Mattia, before we head towards the 2026 season with the confidence that his immediate future is now firmly set in stone. MP Team Principal, Sander Dorsman.
MP Motorsport have finalised their roster for the 2025 season with Joanne Ciconte racing for the team in her rookie F1 Academy campaign.
Ciconte started off in karting aged nine, competing across regional and national championships at home in Australia, with successes including the 2023 Australian Karting Championship Pink Plate win. From there, she was selected as one of the four senior category finalists for that year’s FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars programme.
Transitioning to single seaters last year, Ciconte scored points in Australian F4 before continuing her development in Europe, participating in the Brno round of the Central European Zone F4 Championship.

I’m proud to be moving up into the F1 ACADEMY series with MP Motorsport. To be able to race in front of large crowds and the Formula 1 stars during Grand Prix weekends is a dream come true, and to be able to do that with such an experienced team like MP Motorsport is all I could ask for. I’m very much looking forward to get going with the first test to further hone the car and our cooperation and can’t wait to start my first race in Shanghai. Ciconte on the news.

I can’t wait to get started with MP Motorsport for my second season in F1 ACADEMY. We’ll be working hard all year and fighting for more wins. Super proud to be racing in Ferrari colours again for 2025! It’s actually the first time in my motorsport career that I will represent a Dutch team, so that alone is quite special. MP have done well in the first two F1 ACADEMY seasons, always running up front and taking their share of wins, and it’s definitely my goal to add to those wins and challenge for the title. I very much look forward to competing in this year’s 14 races supporting the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends and showing the world what we’re made of. Maya Weug on the news.
MP Motorsport have confirmed that Oliver Goethe will continue racing for them in Formula 2 next season, completing their driver lineup for 2025.

Since his call up, the German driver has scored 12 points for the team, which all came in the Feature Race at Lusail, where he finished fourth.
He will now step up to F2 full-time next season partnering Richard Verschoor and speaking about his confirmation, Goethe says his experiences in 2024.
I’m truly delighted to continue with MP Motorsport in 2025. It’s the logical thing to do – my four F2 rounds with MP this season will provide me with valuable experience working with the team and with Richard too, as we use that as a stepping stone towards next year’s full-season Formula 2 effort together. I’ve enjoyed many good times with the team when I started out in single-seaters five years ago, and on my return at Monza I was made to feel at home immediately. I can’t wait to go racing one more time in Abu Dhabi before preparing for our 2025 challenge. Goethe on the news.
It was great news that we were able to welcome Oliver back in the team at Monza, and its great news yet again that he is staying on for more Formula 2 in 2025. Oliver fitted right back in as soon as he rejoined our team and we look forward to repeating the strong results we gained in our time together in Spanish F4 and, of course, only recently at Macau in the FIA FR World Cup. Along with Richard, we have two very familiar faces in our team, and we aim to build on their close bond with the team to finish this season on a high and come out strong in 2025. Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport Team Principal.
Alessandro Giusti will race with MP Motorsport in 2025, joining Tim Tramnitz and Bruno Del Pino at the Dutch team and completing their line-up for next season.
The Williams Academy member moves up from the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, where he finished fourth overall, taking two race victories and a further five podiums.

Giusti took part in the F3 post-season test with MP, finishing eighth overall in Jerez and 12th in Barcelona as he got his first taste of F3 machinery ahead of his debut next year.
I’m excited to step up to Formula 3 with MP Motorsport. Our first tests together at Jérez and Barcelona were highly promising which is a good sign for my rookie season in the category. It’s my aim to know the team better as we head into the coming season, especially with the new F3-2025 car. I can’t wait to make my F3 debut at Melbourne in March! Giusti on the news.
It’s wonderful to be able to announce Tim, Bruno and Alessandro at such an early date. This will allow our FIA F3 squad to focus on a productive winter of development with the new Dallara F3-2025 car while forging a cooperative bond between our drivers. Alessandro has proved to be a hugely talented driver who I’m sure will quickly find his feet in this highly competitive feeder series on the road to Formula 1. As we have seen in Formula 2 this year, a new car will be a bonus for the championship’s rookies, as it will provide a level playing field for all. I’m confident that Alessandro will be among the drivers to benefit from that. Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport Team Principal.
MP Motorsport have announced that Richard Verschoor will complete the 2024 FIA Formula 2 season with the team, and confirmed he will race for them in 2025.

Previously, the Dutch combination won the Macau FIA F3 World Cup back in 2019 and ahead of his return to the MP cockpit in Lusail.
Signing up with MP for more Formula 2 feels like coming home. I spent half of my entire racing career with MP, so it means a lot to me that we are able to move forward together for 2025 while also adding the two final 2024 rounds at Losail and Yas Marina. It’s been a partnership that has led to success in Formula 4, Formula 3 and Formula 2, including that legendary victory at Macau. I can’t wait to travel to Qatar and go back to working with the team once again. Verschoor on the news.
I’m extremely happy to welcome back Richard for another season in Formula 2. We have celebrated many wins together, so it’s a true privilege to tap into his wealth of Formula 2 knowledge as we head towards a new season. Richard returning to the MP fold is testament to the way we go racing as a family, and he has always fitted right in. Meanwhile, I would like to thank Dennis for his huge contribution to the team in the past two F2 seasons. Three wins, nine podiums and two poles is no mean feat, and I am certain that he will take his career to a new level in North America. MP Motorsport Team Principal, Sander Dorsman.
MP Motorsport have confirmed their second driver for next season, with Bruno Del Pino joining the Dutch team for the 2025 season.
Del Pino took part in post-season testing for the team, finishing the second test in Barcelona seventh overall and as the lead MP driver. He joins Tim Tramnnitz as being confirmed for the 2025 season.

Speaking about his promotion to F3 with the team, Del Pino said he was very excited to get started on a new challenge.
It’s fantastic news that I’m graduating to Formula 3, and it couldn’t be with a better team than MP Motorsport. In my two years with the team, they have made me feel at home in an environment that has helped me to get the best out of myself. It was wonderful to bag our first wins together this season, and it’s with these positive conditions that we will continue our successful collaboration, as we embark on a fresh challenge in F3. Del Pino on the news.
I’m delighted to welcome Bruno in our in our 2025 FIA F3 line-up to partner Tim. Bruno deciding to stay us is testament to the family atmosphere at MP, and further proof of our motto of accelerating talent. This year, he has been a revelation in Eurocup-3, and it’s our goal to transfer that form to the new F3 car for 2025. In the process, Bruno has shown that Eurocup-3 is a viable route into Formula 3, where I’m certain he will flourish. MP Motorsport Team Principal, Sander Dorsman.
MP Motorsport have confirmed their first driver signing for the 2025 FIA Formula 3 season with Tim Tramnitz set to race for the team in what will be his second campaign in the Championship.
Tramnitz stepped up to Formula 3 last year after an impressive 2023 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, in which he finished third in the Standings.
He then made a bright start to his rookie campaign this year with MP, where he finished third at the season-opener Sakhir Feature Race.
The Red Bull Academy driver prospect went on to achieve three more podiums in 2024, which includes a maiden victory at the final Sprint Race of the year in Monza. He ended up finishing the season ninth in the Standings with 81 points and following the confirmation of his return with MP, is already eyeing more success in 2025.
I’m very pleased to continue with MP Motorsport for my second year in Formula 3. My rookie season contained many highlights, including my first F3 victory, and now our goal must be to improve our consistency and add more wins to our tally. The team and I have managed to create a strong relationship in 2024, and I’m looking forward to use that as a platform for more success in 2025, getting as much out of the new car as we can. Tramnitz on the news.
It’s wonderful that Tim has decided to stay with us for another go at the FIA Formula 3 Championship. I’m happy to know that he has found a true home at MP, and we will continue to provide the family atmosphere in which our drivers revel and thrive. Oliver Goethe will step up to FIA Formula 2 with MP Motorsport this weekend, taking part in Round 11 of the 2024 season at Monza.
The Red Bull Junior Team member will replace the Formula 1-bound Franco Colapinto following the announcement that the Argentine will be racing for Williams for the rest of the season.
Goethe graduates following two seasons in Formula 3, racing for Trident in 2023 and Campos Racing in 2024. The German also took part in two rounds for Campos at Budapest and Spa-Francorchamps in 2022.
Goethe finished eighth in his rookie campaign and graduates from the Championship while sat seventh in the current Standings having been a contender for the Drivers’ title. During that he won two races and achieved a further two podium finishes.
He will now make the move up to Formula 2 with MP, starting at Monza this weekend.
Although I haven’t got any experience in this F2 car, the two seasons I spent in FIA F3 gave me a great foundation for this step. My goals for this weekend are to soak up all the information MP Motorsport provides me with and learn as much as I can. It won’t be easy even on a track I know well because all my competitors have so much more experience than me and I got the call so late that I didn’t have a chance to do simulator prep for F2. But in some way, this is similar to my FIA F3 debut in 2022, where I joined the series mid-season and scored points on my first attempt and finished P4 in the Feature Race in Spa. Overall, I’m happy with my consistency this year and my win and podiums. I am a bit sad that I can’t finish my F3 season as planned, I would have loved to go out with a bang with my Campos Racing team. I wish good luck to them and to the drivers still in the fight for the title. I will be following the races for sure. Goethe on moving up.
Dennis Hauger ended practice fastest of all for MP Motorsport, recording a 1:29.654 to hit the ground running in Melbourne. Isack Hadjar followed in P2, the Campos driver just 0.001s down on the fastest laptime while Andrea Kimi Antonelli led the PREMA Racing charge in third.
Not long after the green light, Amaury Cordeel brought out an early Red Flag after running deep at Turn 1 and becoming beached in the gravel trap.
Once the Hitech Pulse-Eight car was clear, the top spot changed hands multiple times, but Victor Martin led the way for ART Grand Prix after he set a 1:32.359, 0.074s clear of teammate Zak O’Sullivan.
That was swiftly beaten by Gabriel Bortoleto as he moved up to P1 on a 1:31.043. Rodin Motorsport’s Zane Maloney went second-quickest until Antonelli closed the gap to the Brazilian to just 0.130s.
The track continued to improve rapidly as Bortoleto improved on his next lap to lower the time to beat to a 1:30.373. Hauger bettered that by 0.070s shortly afterwards, while Martins went third overall a further 0.008s further back from the Norwegian.
The MP driver then went to the top himself, a 1:29.654 leaving him 0.4s quicker than Antonelli, who moved up to second with over 15 minutes to go.
Paul Aron suffered a similar spin at Turn 1 as his teammate but was able to recover to the circuit and continue on his way. There was a few more improvements in the latter stages of the session, though Hadjar was able to move himself up to second.
The second red flag of the session came with three minutes remaining, as Van Amersfoort Racing’s Rafael Villagomez spun and came to a stop at Turn 2 which brought an early end to the session.
Qualifying-
Dennis Hauger made it a Friday sweep for MP Motorsport, taking pole position in Melbourne after topping Practice timesheets.
The Norwegian beat PREMA Racing’s Andrea Kimi Antonelli to the top spot with his final flying lap to record a 1:28.694. Richard Verschoor made a late improvement to end up third overall.
Before any laps were on the board, the red flags were waved after ART Grand Prix’s Victor Martins came to a half at Turn 7 after a spin on corner exit. He managed to avoid the barriers, but his session was over and his car was recovered.
Once action resumed, Kush Maini set the initial benchmark with a 1:30.359. Hitech Pulse Eight’s Paul Aron then took over P1 with a 1:29,984 while Hauger was just 0.031s down on that effort in second.
With 14 minutes left, cars returned to the pits for fresh supersoft tyres heading into the final runs of the session
Once back on track, Maloney took to the top spot with a 1:29.374 just prior to the second red flag of the session. Jak Crawford lost his DAMS Lucas Oil car and hit the barriers at Turn 12.
Qualifying got back underway with 4:14 left on the clock and the top four were separated by less than a tenth of a second. Bortoleto was set to make an improvement but ran off the road at Turn 12.
The full top 10 are- Pole: Hauger, P2: Antonelli, P3: Verschoor, P4: Maini, P5: Maloney, P6: Aron, P7: Marti, P8: Hadjar, P9: Bortoleto and P10: Stanek.

Dunne also topped the final Formula 3 test of 2023 around a rainy Imola circuit in what was his first taste of F3 action.
I’m thrilled to start my first full season of FIA F3 with MP Motorsport. They are proven winners in every category that they compete in, and I’m sure that they will use their experience to help me build on my initial experiences with the F3 car in the post-season FIA F3 test at Imola and then at Macau. I will be up against the best drivers at this level of single-seater racing, but that’s what I’m here for. I relish the challenge ahead and can’t wait to get started!
Dunne on the news.
We are truly excited to welcome Alex to our FIA F3 team. He has had an outstanding year in GB3 and then, fresh into an FIA F3 car, proved his innate pace at Imola and Macau. His Macau performance in particular was hard to overlook, so we were happy to pounce and snap him up for our final FIA F3 seat. Along with Tim and Kacper, we will have three very quick young drivers all eager to prove their point. I’m confident that they will all shine in their debut seasons.
MP Motorsport will be fielding an unchanged roster with race winners Hamda Al Qubaisi, Amna Al Qubaisi and Emely De Heus all embarking on their second F1 Academy season.

Together, we look forward to a challenging new F1 ACADEMY season in which we hope to repeat and further improve on our strong 2023 results. Hamda proved to be one of the title favourites while Amna and Emely each took their wins. And since we narrowly missed out on the teams’ title last year, we hope to go one better this year! Also, I’m grateful for Red Bull’s unwavering support of our efforts and we aim for a successful partnership together.

Before that, the 19 year old claimed multiple German karting titles before graduating to single-seaters in 2020. Seasons in ADAC and Italian F4 in 2021 brought runner-up finishes in them both before he switched to FRECA in 2022.
Tramnitz was also announced as a Red Bull Junior Team driver for the forthcoming season, joining the Formula 1 junior team’s ranks for 2024 and was present at all three-post season tests for MP Motorsport at the tail end of 2023.
It’s wonderful to be able to step up to FIA Formula 3 with a team such as MP Motorsport. They have won in every single-seater category that they have competed in, and I’m confident that their experience will contribute to being on the pace in FIA F3 straight out of the blocks. It was a joy to test the car at those three tracks, and I worked well with the team. So now let’s translate that to the races – I can’t wait to get started!
Tramnitz of his signing with MP.
We are truly happy to see Tim become a new member of our FIA Formula 3 driver line-up. He has been a force to be reckoned with all through his time in FRECA, so he is more than ready for his step up to the next level. The tests showed that he’s up there among the more experienced drivers, I’m sure that Tim will do the Red Bull name proud in 2024.
MP Motorsport has become the first team to finalise plans for 2024, re-signing Dennis Hauger and completing its driver line-up for next season.

During the two seasons of F2 so far, Hauger has notched up four victories, four fastest laps and eight podium finishes, with two wins and four podiums coming in the 2023 campaign.
Before joining F2, Hauger rose through the ranks enjoying plenty of success. Finishing his maiden single seater season fourth in British F4, he completed a dual effort in 2019 across Italian and ADAC Formula 4. He finished second in the latter and won the Italian Championship in dominant fashion, taking 12 wins and 16 podiums across the season.
From there, he graduated to FIA Formula 3 in 2020, finishing his rookie season 17th before returning in 2021 to win the Championship ahead of his F2 promotion.
I’m really happy to stay with MP Motorsport for another season of FIA Formula 2. I’m truly looking forward to the challenge of setting up a winning new F2 car, as we aim to build on the experience we gained as a team working together in 2023. I welcome Franco as my new teammate – he’s a familiar face to MP too, and that can only be to our advantage in the transitional winter period while getting to grips with the new car.
Hauger on the news.
We are delighted that Dennis has decided to continue with us in the new season. He’s quick, with a cool and smart head on his shoulders. His feedback will help us in the development race with the new car as we move into a new era of FIA Formula 2. With Dennis and Franco, we have two known quantities in our top team on the single-seater ladder. Having signed both at a very early stage will surely contribute to our getting up to speed as soon as we can.
MP Motorsport have announced that Franco Colapinto will make his Formula 2 debut with them in 2023 season finale at Yas Marina this month, ahead of a full campaign with the Dutch team next year.
Colapinto steps up off the back of a second successful year in Formula 3, earning two wins and five podiums for MP. The Williams Racing Academy driver ended up fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.
The Argentine racer is already well acquainted with MP. After storming his way to the 2019 Spanish F4 title in his debut season in single-seaters, Colapinto partnered up with the Dutch team the following year in Formula Renault Eurocup. He secured two wins and nine podiums, he finished his rookie campaign in third.
Remaining with them for another season, he achieved sixth in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. From there, he graduated to F3 with Van Amersfoort Racing, taking two wins on his way to ninth in the Drivers’ Standings in 2022 before reuniting with MP for the 2023 campaign.
I’m absolutely thrilled to be moving up to Formula 2 with MP. MP are proven race winners in the category, and staying with them feels absolutely right. It’s a familiar atmosphere for me, and it will be to our advantage that we know each other so well as I enter my debut season in the category. I’m very much look forward to the fresh challenge of a new series, with a brand-new car to help develop. I can’t wait to get in the car in Abu Dhabi and then work with the team to be ready for a long and challenging 2024 season.
Colapinto on the news.
It’s great news that we are able to announce Franco’s promotion to our F2 team so early. This will give us a headstart in our preparations for an exciting 2024 F2 season in which we all start from zero, with the new F2 car offering everyone a new baseline to work from. Retaining Franco helps us to maintain stability in that transition, apart from the fact that he’s become a member of the MP family and is an extremely quick and talented driver.
Promoted to the reverse grid front row, Boya took full advantage with a lightning launch off the line to get the better off Colapinto for the lead.
The slightest of contact between Caio Collet and Aron on the run down to Turn 1 left the PREMA driver with a puncture. The Estonian spun and collected both Edgar and Marti.
In the battle for third, ART GP teammates Gregoire Saucy and Nikola Tsolov made contact, forcing the Bulgarian to defend from Taylor Barnard behind. The Jenzer driver managed to make it through to fourth as the Safety Car was deployed at the end of the opening lap.
Having dispatched of Tsolov, Bartoleto made his own move on the Australian ahead. With the benefit of DRS, the Trident driver went down the inside into Ascari for sixth. Oliver Goethe was on a charge from P22, clearing teammate Leonardo Fornaroli and Tsolov in one corner for eighth.
Colapinto took charge on lap 10, passing Boya for the lead into the first corner. Dueling over third, O’Sullivan and Saucy made contact out of Turn 1, leaving the Swiss driver with a puncture and falling down the order.
Out front, Colapinto brought home back-to-back Sprint Race victories at Monza. Bortoleto’s patience behind Boya paid off, as the Brazilian claimed second with a move into Turn 4 on the last lap.
Day 3, Feature Race-
Drama had already began to unfold before the 21 laps of racing had even got underway. Pole sitter, Oliver Goethe pulled off the grid reporting a broken throttle, leading to an extra formation lap.
Once the five lights went out, Collet covered off the inside to hold the lead, third-placed Paul Aron immediately tried to take advantage of the space in front but lost out to Edgar.
The Safety Car was deployed on the opening lap after Sprint Race winner, Franco Colapinto stopped on track after contact at Turn 5. After racing had resumed on lap 4, Edgar was back on the attack diving past Collet at Turn 1. Three-wide with Aron and O’Sullivan in the battle for third, Bortoleto went too deep and was forced to go down the escape road dropping down to P6.
Another off-track excursion for Brazilian at Turn 4 gave Nikola Tsolov the opportunity to attack, allowing Barnard and Mari Boya to also come through and demote Bortoleto to P9. Saucy tried the same but contact between the pair left the ART Grand Prix driver with a puncture sending him sailing off into the barriers.
The leading battles were fierce as Collet slid past Edgar to regain the lead on lap 12, whilst Barnard lunged at O’Sullivan to claim third through the first chicane. Undeterred, Edgar made full use of the slipstream, carrying enough overspeed to breeze past the Brazilian back up to the front of the field one lap later.
Another Safety Car interruption to running came after Sebastian Montoya got stuck in the gravel at Turn 5 having been tagged by Hitech Pulse-Eight teammate Gabriele Mini.
With a last lap shootout to overcome, Edgar went early to break clear on the restart. O’Sullivan was slow to react. Collet tried the switchback out of the Della Roggia chicane to take second but it was Barnard who made his move stick, swooping through on the Brazilian to secure the final podium spot which made it three Brits on the podium.
Hauger gained the run he needed on the way to Turn 1 to take the inside line and lead away from Kush Maini. Iwasa surged around the outside of the Campos driver at Turn 2 to take second from fifth on the grid, while Bearman was looming large in Maini’s mirrors for third.
Victor Martins also got in on the action, moving up to seventh from P9 on the grid, rounding Isack Hadjar at Turn 12 to end a busy opening lap.
Frederik Vesti tried to pass Hadjar at Turn 1 on lap 2 but was forced to take to the runoff. It allowed Jack Doohan enough momentum to go around the outside of the Championship leader and take ninth from the Dane at Turn 2.
A DRS train formed in the first 10 laps which started from second down to 21st as drivers looked to save tyre life for later in the race.
The formation running ended on lap 12 after a lock up by Clement Novalak into Turn 1 put the Trident driver on a collision course with Ralph Boschung. It left both drivers out of the running and brought out a brief VSC.
With 11 laps to go, Iwasa was given the all clear from the team to push, and the action ramped up once again as everyone upped the pace. The DAMS driver closed up to Hauger by eight tenths of a second on the following lap, with the gap at 1.9s entering the final 10 laps.
With five laps left, Pourchaire made the dive at Turn 1 on Maini having been stuck to the rear wing of the Campos. Bearman was next on the attack, taking fourth position from the Indian driver at the next corner, going all the way around the outside.
Down to three laps remaining and this time Bearman was the one making the late dive to the inside at Turn 1, forcing his way through on Pourchaire to take P3 from the french driver.
The full top 10 are- P1: Hauger, P2: Iwasa, P3: Bearman, P4: Pourchaire, P5: Daruvala, P6: Maini, P7: Martins, P8: Hadjar, P9: Vesti and P10: Doohan.
Day 3-
Doohan got a great launch from pole to lead into Turn 1 while third placed Vesti went wheel to wheel with Martins into the first corner. On the run to Turn 2, the PREMA Racing driver got the move done to seal second position.
Oliver Bearman started on mediums from seventh, but the Briton fell back to ninth on the opening lap, passed by Dennis Hauger and Enzo Fittipaldi who were both on the softs. Juan Manuel Correa made an electric start to move up five places to P10.
Zane Maloney was the first of those on soft tyres to make a mandatory stop on Lap 8. The Rodin Carlin driver rejoined in 21st but his stopped dragged a few more in on the following lap.
Isack Hadjar was the first of the top five to stop on Lap 13 from fifth and Theo Pourchaire responded one lap later, both swapping to the mediums. The ART Grand Prix driver rejoined in 14th to remain ahead of his compatriot, but both were caught up behind Amaury Cordeel on old medium tyres.
Vesti made the swap to mediums lap 23, rejoining in fourth position just 1.4s ahead of title rival Pourchaire. Martins pitted on the following lap and filtered out on cold tyres ahead of Vesti. The Mercedes junior breezed back through to take the place on the run to Turn 2.
While his rivals scrapped on track, Doohan made his stop on Lap 25, rejoining with the lead of the race and 8.7s ahead of closest challenger Vesti in second. Iwasa was onto the back of Pourchaire quickly with his soft tyres fired up. The Japanese driver got the switchback out of Turn 1 to take fifth position on Lap 26.
The full top 10 are- P1: Doohan, P2: Vesti, P3: Martins, P4: Iwasa, P5: Hadjar, P6: Pourchaire, P7: Hauger, P8: Fittipaldi, P9: Correa and P10: Verschoor.
As rain began to fall before lights out, all bar Gregoire Saucy started on slicks. Pole sitter Sebastian Montoya kept the lead from pole, while Taylor Barnard surged up to second as he passed Jonny Edgar around the outside of Turn 1.
Colapinto then passed both in one move, diving down the inside at Village to go from fourth to second. A scruffy run through Maggotts and Becketts allowed Barnard to slot back into second.
With DRS enabled, Bortoleto was able to put pressure on Mini ahead in fifth position, the Brazilian driver was through on the Hitech driver as he forced a lock-up from the Italian driver into the Vale Chicane.
The heavy rain arrived on lap 8 and the Safety Car was deployed with all the drivers running slick tyres. Dino Beganovic took the opportunity to pit for wet tyres whilst the rest of the grid remained on track.
With positions one to 10 still on dry tyres and those behind on wets, the Safety Car was withdrawn entering lap 13, with Barnard right on the rear wing of Montoya, the pair made contact at Turn 1.
After his spin, Montoya was back into the points and eighth, as he passed both of the PREMAs down the Hangar Straight with three laps to go.
The full top 10 are- P1: Colapinto, P2: Bortoleto, P3: Mansell, P4: Collet, P5: Mini, P6: Barter, P7: Fornaroli, P8: Montoya, P9: Cohen and P10: Marti.
Day 3-
Fornaroli covered off his teammate to retain the lead into Turn 1 while Gabriel Bortoleto made immediate progress up to fourth position, going around the outside of Mansell into Turn 3.
Further ahead, Marti cleared Goethe to take second position, albeit briefly. The Trident driver was able to retake the place with a great pass around the outside of Stowe later on.
Luke Browning made contact with Hugh Barter out of the final corner, leaving the Hitech driver with a broken suspension. It resulted in his retirement from the race and brought out the Safety Car. Edgar was also out of his home event on lap 1 after contact with Collet on the opening lap.
On lap 17, rain began to fall and Robert Faria went off into the barriers at Woodcote. He was out of the car ok and the Safety Car came back out. As the rain intensified, Tommy Smith was the only taker for wet tyres with three laps remaining, rejoining in 28th position.
Van Amersfoort Racing’s Collet was able to make great progress despite running the slick hard tyres, taking multiple positions on the penultimate lap to rise up to the points positions. Teammate Smith was able to take full advantage of conditions on the wets, going from 28th to 12th in the space of a lap and a half.
The full top 10 are- P1: Goethe, P2: Fornaroli, P3: Marti, P4: Aron, P5: Mansell, P6: Bortoleto, P7: Mini, P8: Colapinto, P9: Saucy and P10: Montoya.
MP Motorsport have become the third team to complete their line-up for the inaugural F1 Academy season, announcing that Dutch racer Emely de Heus will be racing alongside Amna and Hamda Al Qubaisi.
Twenty year old De Heus is already a well known face to the Dutch team, having made her single-seater debut with them in 2021. Competing in Spanish Formula 4, she went on to claim the Female Trophy that same year.
From there, De Heus joined the W Series last year, and earned herself a best result of 10th in the opening round in Miami. Ahead of her F1 Academy debut, she got reacquainted with MP over the winter, driving for them in the UAE Championship.
It feels great to be back with MP, they are like a second home to me. I had a wonderful time with MP back in 2021, and with the added experience that I gained with them I look forward to putting that to good use in my first season in F1 Academy. I can’t wait to get started for the first round at the Red Bull Ring in April and will especially enjoy racing in front of my home crowd at Zandvoort in June.
De Heus on the announcement.
I’m delighted to welcome Emely back into the MP fold. She proved to be a great asset in 2021, and I have no doubt that she will feature strongly in F1 Academy’s first year of action. With five of the leading teams on the single-seater ladder to Formula 1 supporting F1 Academy, the future is looking bright for the series, and Emely will be a well-deserved part of that.
Amna and Hamda Al Qubaisi have became the latest drivers announced for the inaugural F1 Academy, with both sisters set to compete for MP Motorsport in the new all-female series.
Amna, 22, made her single-seater debut in 2018, competing in Italian F4 before becoming the first Emirati and female racer to compete in the Formula 4 UAE Championship the following year.
She also brings experience with her, having also driven in the Asian F3 Championship, Formula Regional Asian Championship and a two-round appearance in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine.
Meanwhile, 20 year old Hamda began her single-seater career in 2019, driving in Italian F4 and in 2021 she made history by becoming the first female racer to claim a podium in the Championship.
The same year, she finished fourth in F4 UAE and then went on to step up to the Formula Regional Asian and European Championships.
I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be joining MP Motorsport for the F1 Academy. MP Motorsport is a fantastic team with decades of expertise, so I’m really happy to be a part of this family. I’m also really happy to be back behind the wheel and see where this takes us.
Amna on her new seat.
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be racing with MP Motorsport for the F1 Academy. I’m excited to represent MP Motorsport in this series and I’m aware of the team’s amazing past, so I can’t wait to continue with them and grow.
Hamda added.
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Amna and Hamda to our F1 Academy squad. They are from a family that carries speed in their veins and have a bright future in motorsport ahead of them. I have fond memories of the Dubai 24 Hours in which we competed against their father Khaled who won it twice back in 2012 and 2013 when Amna and Hamda were still little girls, and then for a third time in 2020. It’s amazing to realize that they have grown into fierce competitors in karting and now in single seaters where they form arguably the quickest sister act in the entire world of motorsport. 2023 is going to be great with the pair of them.
The Formula 2 grid is now complete as MP Motorsport have announced that Jehan Daruvala will be joining the reigning Drivers’ and Teams’ Champions for the 2023 season.
The 24 year old has claimed victory in every F2 season, he’s competed in since his debut in 2020, with four wins and 15 podiums to his name.
After two seasons at Carlin, Daruvala moved to PREMA Racing last season and went on to finish seventh in the Standings for the second consecutive season.
Swapping from PREMA to MP, the Indian driver will be reunited with 2022 teammate Dennis Hauger for the 2023 season. The pair both completed post-season testing with the Dutch squad, with Daruvala clocking in the second fastest time of Day 2’s morning session at the Yas Marina circuit.
I’m really pleased to be back in FIA Formula 2, and to be able to team up with MP Motorsport makes it extra special. Last year, I was stunned by MP’s remarkably consistent front-running pace, and in 2023 I hope to be the beneficiary of that myself! Together with Dennis, I’m confident that our combined experience and speed will contribute to MP fighting for wins once again. I really enjoyed working with the team in the post-season test and look forward to 2023 testing and the season that lies ahead.
Daruvala on his new seat.
At MP, we are delighted to welcome Jehan to our FIA F2 team. He has been a consistent frontrunner right from his debut in the category, taking wins in every F2 season he has competed in. His experience will be of great value to the team, so we are very much aiming for a repeat of last year’s form. Also, matching him up with Dennis will allow us to build on a smooth cooperation between teammates who already know each other well. With such a strong driver pairing for 2023, I can’t wait to go racing!
Franco Colapinto has become the latest signing to the Williams Driver Academy.
The Argentine competed in his rookie FIA Formula 3 campaign last year, finishing 9th in the drivers’ championship with Van Amersfoort after several stand-out performances across the season, including his debut in Bahrain.
The 19 year old captured the Spanish F4 title in his first full season of single-seater racing in 2019, where he took 11 race wins. He drove in both Formula Renault Eurocup and Toyota Racing Series in 2020, finishing third in both series with three victories and 17 podiums combined.
For his second FIA F3 season, Colapinto switches from VAR to reunite with MP Motorsport. The 19 year old took part in the post season test with the team last year, achieving 248 laps at Jerez and ending the test with the fastest time on the third and final day.
It’s a real honour to join Williams Racing as an Academy Driver. They are one of the most successful teams in Formula 1 history and I am looking forward to following in the footsteps of my fellow countryman Carlos Reutemann. It’s an incredible opportunity for which I am forever grateful. Thanks to everyone at Williams for putting their trust in me. I am also excited to announce that I will be back with MP Motorsport for the 2023 FIA F3 season. I really enjoyed my time with the team in Eurocup and FRECA and we achieved some great results together. The goal is to reach even higher this time. My first year in FIA F3 was all about learning and I will use all the knowledge I’ve gathered to aim for the title next year. I am grateful to everyone who made this possible. Bullet Sports Management, YPF, ROFGO Racing, and of course, my beloved country Argentina. Thank you for all the support. I can’t wait to get the season started.
Colapinto on joining the Academy and his new seat.
We’re delighted to welcome Franco to the Williams Racing Driver Academy. His career achievements since starting karting highlight Franco’s natural ability behind the wheel and what he’s capable of in the years to come. He had a standout rookie season in Formula 3 with several strong performances that led to podiums and wins. We look forward to working closely with Franco to support and nurture his development as a driver.
Sven Smeets, Sporting Director at Williams Racing.
Franco Colapinto has switched to MP Motorsport for his second campaign in FIA Formula 3.
A standout performer of the 2022 season, as Colapinto scored pole position on his and Van Amersfoort Racing’s debut weekend in Sakhir before going on to take two wins and a further three podiums.
Having made his single-seater debut in 2019, Colapinto immediately set out to make his mark by achieving the Spanish F4 title at the first time of asking.
Progressing up to Formula Renault Eurocup the following year with MP, the Argentinian secured third in the standings. Embarking on a campaign in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine with the Dutch squad in 2021, he closed his season in sixth with two wins and two further podiums.
Alongside his running in FRECA, he gained additional experience in endurance racing, taking home a victory in the European Le Mans series LMP2 class and finishing seventh in his first 24 hours of Le Mans.
I’m so pleased to have signed with MP for my second season in FIA Formula 3. I only have fond memories of my years in Formula Renault and Formula Regional with the team, a cooperation that resulted in many wins and pole positions. I’m eager to resume the run of success that we have had and fully intend to expand on it. Next year is going to be great!
Colapinto on his seat.
It’s so good to be able to welcome Franco back into the MP fold. He’s been outstanding in his two years with us, and in his other two seasons since his promotion from karts Franco was always among our most daunting rivals! With a first season of FIA F3 under his belt, he now carries the weight needed for a consistently frontrunning campaign – and we’re here to help him achieve that.
Jonny Edgar will be returning for a third Formula 3 season, making the switch from Trident to MP Motorsport for the 2023 campaign.
The 18 year old finished his sophomore season strongly, scoring four top five finishes in the final six races to take 12th in the Standings, despite missing two rounds early on due to health problems.
Edgar already has four years of single-seater experience under his belt, where he progressed up to Italian F4 in 2019 after a successful karting career. From there, he stormed to the 2020 ADAC Formula 4 title, claiming six wins, 11 podiums and five pole positions across 21 races.
Making his F3 debut in 2021, for Carlin the British racer took five points-scoring finishes before moving to Trident the following year.
First linking up with MP during post-season testing in Jerez, Edgar clocked in 259 laps across the three days and will be continuing his partnership with the Dutch team alongside Spanish rookie, Mari Boya.
I’m really happy to become part of the MP family for 2023. The team are proven race winners in FIA Formula 3, a fact that they have consistently showed over the past few seasons. It was great to get a headstart with the team at Jérez and meet up with Mari and all the guys. This year has been difficult with my health issues, but I have fought back and really worked on my fitness in the car. So now I’m relishing the thought of a fresh attack on FIA F3, as it feels like unfinished business to me. I can’t wait to get going!
Edgar on his new seat.
We are truly pleased to welcome Jonny in our FIA F3 team. He is an outstanding driver with loads of natural talent, his titles in karting and Formula 4 vouch for that. We look forward to having a hand in rebooting his promising career by providing him with a competitive F3 car. We enjoyed working with him at Jérez and aim to help him convert all of his obvious raw speed into strong results. Bring on 2023!
The all woman F1 Academy series have confirmed the team line-up for the inaugural campaign in 2023.
Five veteran outfits in junior categories have confirmed their entries for next year with ART Grand Prix, Campos Racing, Carlin, MP Motorsport and PREMA Racing fielding three cars each to comprise the 15 car grid.
Each team has an established history in junior racing including the Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championships, and will now be adding the all-women driver category to their motorsport setup from next year.
F1 Academy focuses on young women drivers emerging in the junior ranks and aiding them in progressing to the higher levels of single seater racing.
The first season will include seven events and with such experienced teams forming the ’23 line up, the drivers will gain vital experience both in and out of the car, helping each achieve their full potential.
It is exciting to be able to announce the five teams that will be racing in the F1 Academy for next year and who will be providing this fantastic opportunity to the young and talented women to begin their journey into competitive motorsport. We believe it is important that everyone has the chance to follow their ambitions and get the support and guidance needed to progress and excel. The F1 Academy is an important part of our plan to increase diversity and representation in motorsport and we are looking forward to the first season in 2023 and stay tuned for more news in this area.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1.
I am very pleased to reveal the five teams entering the F1 Academy for the next three-year cycle, starting from 2023. We know them very well and we have been collaborating with each one for many years. They are well-known for their experience and expertise in nurturing and developing young drivers. I fully trust that they will give the drivers competing in the F1 Academy the keys to grow technically, and that they will help them with the physical and mental preparations for the journey ahead.
