  • Mahindra Racing commits to GEN4

    Formula E has announced that Mahinra Racing has committed to an additional four years in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as a manufacturer, securing its participation in the highly anticipated GEN4 era.

    The news extends a strong, long-term relationship between Formula E and the Indian manufacturer, stretching back to 2013 when Mahindra became a founding team from the first season of Formula E and the first OEM to commit to the championship at its inception.

    That journey is now set to continue until at least 2030, building on a transformative 18 months that has seen Mahindra Racing rise from the back of the grid to become regular podium contenders under CEO and Team Principal Frederic Bertrand and with the valuable support of the wider Mahindra Group.

    This commitment also gives Mahindra Racing the opportunity to continue to use Formula E – a place where sport, human ingenuity and cutting edge technology intersect – as a platform to take learnings from the track into a wide range of markets.

    The vision as Mahindra Racing develops its GEN4 contender is clear – to keep building momentum, chase marginal gains and become an established contender for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in the near future, competing on a global stage against world-class manufacturers.

  • Lola Cars extends partnership with Yamaha

    Lola Cars and Yamaha Motor are set to continue their technical partnership through Formula E’s GEN4 era.

    The companies will continue working together to develop their 2026/27 powertrain, which will be introduced in Season 13 – with significant advancements in energy efficiency, race performance and safety to follow.

    The partnership say this continued collaboration provides the perfect platform for Lola and Yamaha Motor to advance technologies that will shape the future of mobility, leveraging the high performance and high pressure motorsport environment.

    They join Nissan, Jaguar, Porsche and Maserati as the confirmed manufacturers for Formula E’s next major leap.

    Working alongside Yamaha Motor on the development of the powertrain the Lola Yamaha ABT team is currently using in Formula E has been a mutually beneficial and positive experience. Having already committed to GEN4 ourselves, I’m so pleased that Yamaha Motor will be continuing this journey in electric racing with us. With their vast experience and commitment to advancing sustainable mobility, they are the perfect partner for Lola Cars and we look forward to continuing to drive innovation through motorsport with them.

  • Maserati commits to Gen4 Era

    Maserati has committed to a further four years and then then Gen4 era of Formula E as a manufacturer.
    This landmark decision ensures Stellantis-powered cars will remain on the Formula E grid until Season 16 (2029/30).

    With a rich legacy spanning over a decade, Stellantis Motorsport has been at the forefront of developing cutting-edge, high-efficiency powertrains for Formula E teams DS PENSKE and Maserati MSG Racing through GEN3 and into the GEN3 Evo era.

    MAserati’s continued involvement into GEN4 reinforces their dedication to leveraging Formula E as a platform for advancing road-relevant electric technologies, ensuring that the championship remains a proving ground for sustainable innovation and performance.

    Since joining Formula E as Maserati MSG Racing in Season 9, the Modena-based team have already established themselves as a formidable force in the championship.
    Their impressive track record in the last two years includes six podiums, two pole positions and two race wins.

    We are delighted to announce Stellantis Motorsport’s commitment to Maserati in the upcoming Gen4 of Formula E. For over 10 years, we have been developing high-efficiency powertrains for DS and Maserati, and will continue to work on these road-relevant technologies in as competitive and promising a championship as Formula E.   • Lola commits to GEN4

    Lola Cars is set to compete in the GEN4 era for Formula E, extending its commitment until 2030.

    Following the announcement of its highly anticipated return to competitive motorsport, Lola Cars revealed that its involvement in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will also extend into the Gen4 era.

    The iconic, globally renowned motorsport brand, which has more than 500 championship wins, will join as a manufacturer from next season for the new GEN3 Evo era.
    The latest commitment to GEN4 will take their participation in the championship through to at least 2030, across six seasons.

    Lola’s commitment to Formula E is the first of many projects to come, as the iconic British company re-establishes itself as an industry leader in sustainable engineering and motorsport.
    With their focus on electrification, hydrogen and sustainable fuels, its commitment to Formula E will act as a stepping stone to further innovate in these key areas.

    Alongside Lola, three other major manufacturers – Nissan, Porsche and Jaguar – have also committed to the Gen4 era.
    Their participation promises electric racing fans even more excitement and competitive racing for years to come as the championship continues to grow and expand globally.

    Formula E’s next generation GEN4 technology will be introduced in Season 13 (2026/27) and includes significant advancements in efficiency, performance and safety.
    Aligned with Lola’s goals to further develop sustainable mobility technology, advanced features like all-wheel drive and increased efficiency will provide a new technical challenge for the British manufacturer on an already competitive grid that includes some of the industry’s leading OEMs and teams.

    While specific technical details for the Gen4 era are yet to be revealed by the FIA and Formula E, it is confirmed that the cars will feature 600kW of power, up from Gen3’s 350kW and 700kW regenerative braking, compared to the current 600 kW a significant increase.

    With their historic return to top-tier motorsport for Season 11 next year, we’re delighted that Lola Cars will also be committing to the GEN4 era – promising their presence will be on the Formula E grid until at least 2030. Their trust in our series for their latest venture into electrification and innovation is testament to our ability to attract the biggest names in motorsport, as well as our joint ambition to continue to grow this championship. It’s a huge privilege for us, and we can’t wait to see what they can do next year when the famous Lola marque hits the Formula E track for the first time.

  • Porsche commits to Gen4

    Porsche has committed to Formula E until at least 2030.
    Formula E has announced that Porsche has committed at least an additional four years to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

    Ahead of the 2024 Shanghai E-Prix, Porsche AG and Porsche Motorsport alongside Formula E and the FIA have confirmed Porsche’s registration to continue to be a manufacturer in the World Championship from Seasons 13 to 16, committing their involvement until at least 2030.

    This decision ensures that the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer will be on the grid when the next generation of vehicles, known as Gen4, debuts in the all electric racing series.
    With features like all-wheel drive that can be activated at certain points in the race, the new generation presents an additional technical challenge for the teams.

    Gen4 will be introduced in Season 13 (2026/2027) providing manufacturers with greater scope for development and offering valuable insights for their series production.

    This announcement aligns with the long-term goals of Formula E, the FIA, and Porsche for electrification and innovation in the automotive industry, both on and off the track.
    The landmark agreement highlights a sustained partnership focused on advancing electric racing technology, showcasing the dedication of all three organisations in pushing the boundaries of electric mobility and sustainability worldwide.

    Furthermore, it solidifies Porsche’s position as one of the pioneering Formula E manufacturers, ready to embrace the championship’s exciting Gen4 phase, ahead of its official debut.

    Not only this, it cements Jaguar as one of the pioneering Formula E manufacturers to readily embrace the championship’s forthcoming phase: Gen4.

    The upcoming GEN4 technology will witness a revolutionary leap in electric racing, promising significant breakthroughs in energy efficiency, race performance and safety standards.
    This next gen platform will introduce features such as regeneration capacity reaching up to 700kW and a power output surge up to 600kW.

    The Jaguar team is one of the longest-standing in the Formula E paddock, boasting a legacy of success that few can rival.
    Since its entry into Formula E in Season 3 (2016/17) Jaguar has continuously been at the forefront of competition.
    As they mark the midpoint of their eighth season, their track record speaks volumes: over 100 race starts, 14 thrilling victories, 38 podium finishes and eight Julius Baer Pole Positions.

  • Nissan becomes first Manufacturer to commit to Gen4

    Nissan has committed at least an additional four years to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship until 2030, continuing its manufacturer outfit into the Gen4 era.

    During a press conference held in Tokyo ahead of the first Formula E race in Japan last weekend, Nissan Formula E Team Managing Director and Team Principal Tommaso Volpe signed the official registration document for car manufacturers in the FIA Formula E World Championship for Seasons 13 to 16.

    The historic agreement emphasises a long-term partnership aimed at advancing electric racing technology and underscores Formula E, Nissan the FIA’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of electric mobility and innovation on the global stage.
    It also marks the first of the Formula E manufacturers in the paddock to commit to Formula E’s next chapter: GEN4.

    The next-generation GEN4 technology will herald a new era of electric racing, boasting unparalleled advancements in energy efficiency, race performance and safety innovations.
    It will include cutting-edge features, such as regeneration capacity up to 700kW, and increased power output to 600kW and safety innovations.

    The Nissan team is one of the most successful and long-standing teams in the Formula E paddock. Since its entry into Formula E in Season 5, Nissan has expanded its operations, exemplified by the recent relocation of the Nissan Formula E team headquarters to the Paris area.

    Nissan’s pledge extends its ABB FIA Formula E World Championship involvement to at least 12 years, marking a significant milestone in the company’s motorsport history. With Formula E serving as the ultimate testing ground for Nissan’s electric vehicle technology, this commitment also aligns seamlessly with Nissan’s Ambition 2030 objectives. This ambitious plan positions electrification as the cornerstone of Nissan’s strategy, with a goal to introduce 34 new electrified models by fiscal year 2030.

    • Batteries: Podium AT – an Italian company with success across a variety of motorsport projects, will step up to become an FIA World Championship single supplier for the first time.
    • Front powertrain: Marelli – extending the Italian brand’s longstanding working relationship with the FIA.
    • Tyres: Bridgestone – marking the manufacturer’s return to an FIA World Championship for the first time in a decade and a half.
