  • Ten teams selected for 2025-2027 Formula 3 season

    The FIA Formula 3 Championship promoters are pleased to confirm the ten teams that have been selected for the 2025 -2027 seasons.

    For the next three-year cycle, nine teams who completed in the 2024 season have been retained, while newcomers DAMS complete the F3 grid.
    Each team will enter three cars as usual, making it a 30 car field.

    For the next three-year cycle, we have retained nine of our current teams. Their level of professionalism and expertise guarantee the best preparation for the young drivers who aspire to progress to the highest levels of motorsport. To complete the grid, we welcome DAMS to the list of selected teams. We know them very well from the FIA Formula 2 Championship. Their pedigree and level of performance make them the perfect addition to the F3 field. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Andreas Jenzer and everyone at Jenzer Motorsport for their commitment to Formula 3 since the beginning of the category. They have left their mark in the Championship, and I completely respect their decision to focus now on new challenges.

  • F1 to race in Belgium until 2025

    Formula 1 has announced that the Belgian Grand Prix will be remaining on the calendar until 2025 following a one year extension.

    The iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit holds a rich history in F1, having hosted 56 Grand Prix since its first race in 1950, and comes in as the longest circuit on the calendar at 7.004km.

    In recent years, the track has undergone significant development of its infrastructure, including a 10,000 capacity increase due to two new grandstands, as well as offering a wider variety of entertainment for fans including the addition of live music.

    This year’s Belgian Grand Prix saw an attendance of 380,000 people across the weekend, an increase of 20,000 over the 2022 event.

    The race has long been considered as potentially vulnerable as more and more lucrative flyaway events being added to the F1 schedule, and with the Dutch GP which was first held in 2021 it can be seen as potentially impacting crowd figures.

    Not only this, the disaster of the 2021 event, when the race was red flagged after a few laps behind the safety car, also called the venue into question.
    However, with the interest created by Max Verstappen has continued to boost attendance at Spa, despite the huge success of the neighbouring event in his home country.

    Spa is synonymous with Formula 1 having been one of the circuits in our first ever season and is much-loved by fans and drivers alike, so I am delighted to extend our relationship with them until 2025. The promoter has taken big strides in the last few years to improve the fan experience and infrastructure, and work is ongoing between all the stakeholders with a clear focus on delivering safe and exciting racing. I would like to thank the promoter and the Government of Wallonia for their continued support.

    We are proud and excited to announce that the Formula 1 Grand Prix will take place in Wallonia in 2025. Our region will once again rise to the top of the international scene, thanks to its high-quality events and legendary sports infrastructure. Beyond the prestige, I would like to emphasise the considerable economic impact that this event brings to Wallonia and Belgium. According to a study carried out in 2021, the Grand Prix generates positive spin-offs of €41.8 million for our region, after deduction of public funding, which is steadily decreasing. These figures constitute a solid indication of the financial impact, and the positive outlook means that we can expect even more positive results this year. The Formula 1 Grand Prix thus embodies both an emblematic moment in motor sport and a powerful engine of economic growth for our region.

  • FIA approve Andretti entry as 11th F1 team

    The FIA has given Andretti Formula Racing the green light to join the Formula 1 grid, subject to it reaching a commercial agreement with FOM.

    Following months of analysis by the FIA over the expressions of interest to join F1 from 2025 at the earliest, the governing body has finally announced the outcome of its efforts.

    In a statement issued on Monday, it said that Andretti was the only applicant that was being put forward to third and final stage of selection, which involves F1’s commercial rights holders.

    But while the FIA is happy with the Andretti bid and believes it fulfils all the criteria it has laid down, that does not mean the squad will definitely get a place on the grid.

    Andretti now needs to reach a satisfactory commercial deal with FOM, and there has been a known resistance to the field getting expanded beyond 10 team.
    F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali has been consistent that any new team would need to bring a clear added value to the championship.

    F1 teams have to prove they had the sporting, technical and financial capabilities to join the F1 grid, as well as explain plans on sustainability and positive societal impact.

    The FIA was very clear in establishing stringent criteria for entry from the outset of the Expressions of Interest procedure. Our objective, after rigorous due diligence during the application phase, was to only approve prospective entries which satisfied the set criteria and illustrated that they would add value to the sport. The FIA is obliged to approve applications that comply with the Expressions of Interests application requirements and we have adhered to that procedure in deciding that Andretti Formula Racing LLC’s application would proceed to the next stage of the application process. In taking that decision, the FIA is acting in accordance with EU directives on motor sport participation and development. Andretti Formula Racing LLC was the only entity which fulfils the selection criteria that was set in all material respects. I congratulate Michael Andretti and his team on a thorough submission. I also want to thank all prospective teams for their interest and participation.

  • Hamilton signs new deal and Russell extends

    Lewis Hamilton has put pen to paper on a new Mercedes contract that will keep the seven-time world champion onboard through the 2025 season, with George Russell also retained for the same period.

    Hamilton, was in his final year of his existing Silver Arrows deal and has been in talks with team boss Toto Wolff for several months, with those discussions eventually resulting in fresh terms.

    It comes halfway through Hamilton’s 11th season for Mercedes having joined the Brackley team back in 2013 and gone on to set a host of record, from championship wins to pole positions, race wins and so much more!

    Hamilton and Mercedes are currently working hard to return to the front of the F1 grid, their respective title winning runs having come to an end in 2021, but both sides are confident that the renewed partnership will yield further success.

    We dream every day of being the best and we have dedicated the past decade together to achieving that goal. Being at the top does not happen overnight or over a short period of time, it takes commitment, hard work and dedication and it’s been an honour to earn our way into the history books with this incredible team. We have never been hungrier to win. We have learnt from every success but also every setback. We continue to chase our dreams, we continue to fight no matter the challenge and we will win again. I’m grateful to the team who have supported me both on and off the track. Our story isn’t finished, we are determined to achieve more together and we won’t stop until we do.

    I have grown up with this team ever since joining as part of the junior programme back in 2017. It’s my home and it feels fantastic to extend our special relationship through 2025. After stepping up to the Mercedes race seat last year, I wanted to reward the trust and belief that Toto and the rest of the team placed in me. Taking my first pole position and race win last year was an unforgettable feeling. More importantly though, it’s been great to work with everybody at Brackley and Brixworth to make progress with our car and push forward our development. Their loyalty, vision and hard work is inspiring. We have made some significant steps over the last 18 months and are only getting stronger as a team. I’m excited to help continue to build on that momentum as we progress into 2024 and 2025 as we continue to focus on returning to the very front of the pack

    Continuing with our current driver line-up was a straightforward decision. We have the strongest pairing on the grid and both drivers are playing a crucial role in the team to move us forward. The strength and stability they provide will be key building blocks for our future success. Our partnership with Lewis is one of the most successful in the sport’s history. It was always a formality that we would continue together – and it’s energising for us all to be confirming that publicly. His qualities as a pure racing driver are illustrated by his remarkable track record; but over our years together, he has grown to become a pillar and leader of our team. Those leadership qualities are crucial as we focus on fighting for world championships again. As F1’s biggest global star, he has also played a key role in shaping our commitments to diversity, inclusion and sustainability, that will be foundations for our success in the years ahead. George is a leading light of his generation. He has repaid the faith we showed in him when promoting him to a race seat in 2022. His maiden pole position in Hungary and first Grand Prix victory in São Paulo were standout moments last season. As a driver, he combines razor-sharp speed with the tenacity of a true fighter. But he brings, too, an intelligence and attention to detail that will help him to continue to grow, develop and improve further. He is a natural fit to the team and we are delighted to have extended the relationship for the coming years.

  • F1 to race in Mexico City until 2025

    The Mexico City Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez will be remaining on the calendar until 2025, following an agreement between F1, the Government of Mexico City and the race promoters.

    Formula 1 returned to Mexico in 2015 and this season’s race is set to attract 350,000 fans over the three days. The first Grand Prix held under the contract extension is set to take place on October 27th to 29th, 2023.

    Between 2015 and 2021, the event generated over $2,443 million USD in economic activity and created 57,080. The 2021 event created 9,236 jobs alone and generated an economic benefit for the region on $768 million USD with a further $494 million USD in global media exposure.

    I am very pleased to announce that Formula 1 will continue to race in Mexico City for another three years under this new agreement. Every year the race attracts a large number of passionate fans, and the atmosphere is incredible, and I know everyone will be excited by this news. I want to thank Claudia Sheinbaum, the Head of Government for Mexico City, and Alejandro Soberon and his team for their ongoing commitment to Formula 1 and the continued success of the event.

    The Mexico City Grand Prix contract extension has been made possible thanks to the leadership of Claudia Sheinbaum and the Mexico City Government. The ability to host the race in the nation’s capital until 2025 is the result of a coordinated effort to preserve an event that brings benefits to the city and excitement to thousands of fans. We will keep working to ensure the race continues to be a strong contributor to our city’s economy.

    Formula 1 is very important for the city, not only because of its considerable economic impact, but also because millions of people around the world watch it and it showcases the beauty and grandeur of Mexico City to the whole country and the entire world. Since we took over the government of Mexico City, we endeavoured to put in place a mechanism that would allow Formula 1 to be held with the participation of entrepreneurs who not only benefit from the event but are also keen to make it happen because they love the city, and they love Mexico.

  • F1 to race in Monaco till 2025

    After months of uncertainty, Formula 1 will continue to race in Monaco until 2025 after a new three-year agreement was finalised with the Automobile Club of Monaco (ACM).

    There was uncertainty about the future of the Monaco Grand Prix, due to differences of opinion over the race hosting fee, TV rights, track-side sponsorship and infrastructure.

    F1’s fustrations with Monaco were not just limited to the fee, there was annoyance about the nature of the TV direction, which had traditionally been done by a local director rather than F1 personnel.

    As well as this, Monaco regularly did its own track-side advertising deals… Last year, Monaco did a deal with watch brand TAG Heuer which is a direct competitor of F1’s official timing partner Rolex and has prominent branding around F1 tracks.

    Monte Carlo’s streets have been an important part of the championship since the first round back in 1950, the venue offering a unique challenging for the drivers and a back drop that is famous around the world.

    Monaco will be the eighth round of the 24-race 2023 season on May 28th, the second part of a back-to-back with Imola.

    I am pleased to confirm that we will be racing in Monaco until 2025 and excited to be back on the streets of this famous Principality for next year’s Championship on May 28.
