  • Bottas re-joins Mercedes as reserve

    Mercedes have announced that Valtteri Bottas will return to the team as a reserve driver for the 2025 season, after the Finn and Kick Sauber parted company following the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

    Bottas drove for Mercedes for five seasons alongside Lewis Hamilton from 2017 – 2021, securing all 10 of his career wins with the Silver Arrows, as well as his 20 pole positions in Formula 1.

    He would then join Sauber, known as Alfa Romeo at the time for the 2022 season after Mercedes chose to promote George Russell in his place, the Finn enduring mixed fortunes with the Swiss team ranging from a strong 10th in 2022 to failing to score at all in 2024.

    When Kick Sauber opted not to re-sign Bottas for 2025 – instead choosing a new combination of Nico Hulkenberg and Brazilian rookie Gabriel Bortoleto – the Finn began talks with Mercedes about a reserve role in a bid to stay in the conversation as he pursues a racing return next season.

    His reserve role will involve him attending most, if not all, the Grand Prix and supporting George Russell and debutant Kimi Antonelli.

    Returning home to the Mercedes family as third driver for 2025 is what’s next and I couldn’t be more pleased. I want to thank Toto [Wolff, Mercedes team boss], the team at Brackley, and everyone at the three-pointed star for welcoming me back with open arms.Despite the challenges of the past few years, I know that I’ve still got so much more to contribute to F1. Since I was a five-year-old kid growing up in Nastola, Finland, my focus has been on achieving success in the top tier of motorsport. I’ve been fortunate to have enjoyed many incredible moments in my 12 years of racing in F1 so far. As I return to the place where so many of those moments were achieved, I’m looking forward to using all the knowledge I’ve gained to help the team to perform and progress towards our goal of fighting for world championships.

    Welcome home, Valtteri! It’s great to have you back. His impact and contribution in the five years he was with us previously as our race driver was immense. Along with scoring multiple Grands Prix wins, he played a vital role in five of our championship victories. His technical feedback and input were important in helping us to those successes and pushing the team forward. Not only that, but he was also a fantastic colleague and team member. His dry sense of humour and personable nature made him a firm favourite with everyone at Brackley and Brixworth. In his role as Reserve Driver, all those qualities will be incredibly important in helping us compete for world championships and supporting both George and Kimi on track.

  • Lawson confirmed for Red Bull

    Red Bull have chosen Liam Lawson to replace Sergio Perez and become Max Verstappen’s team mate this year.

    Just before Christmas it got announced that Sergio Perez will be leaving the team with immediate effect after agreeing a deal to part ways with the team despite having two years left on his contract.

    When Red Bull opted to make a change with Perez, they narrowed down the shortlist to either promoting Lawson or his RB teammate Yuki Tsunoda.

    New Zealander, Lawson got the nod after impressing in two super-sub stints with Red Bull’s sister team – first when he replaced the injured Daniel Ricciardo for five races towards the end of 2023, and second when he replaced Ricciardo from the United States Grand Prix onwards in 2024.

    To be announced as an Oracle Red Bull Racing driver is a lifelong dream for me. This is something I’ve wanted and worked towards since I was eight years old. It’s been an incredible journey so far. I want to say a massive thank you to the whole team at VCARB for their support, the last six races have played a huge part in my preparation for this next step. I also want to thank, Christian [Horner, Red Bull boss], Helmut [Marko, Red Bull Motorsport Adviser] and the whole Red Bull family for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.     I’m delighted to announce that Liam Lawson will join the team in 2025. Liam’s performances over the course of his two stints with Visa Cash App Racing Bulls have demonstrated that he’s not only capable of delivering strong results but that he’s also a real racer, not afraid to mix it with the best and come out on top. His arrival continues the Team’s long history of promoting from within the Red Bull Junior Programme and he follows in the footsteps of championship and race-winning drivers such as Sebastian Vettel and of course, Max Verstappen. There’s no doubt that racing alongside Max, a four-time champion and undoubtedly one of the greatest drivers ever seen in F1, is a daunting task, but I’m sure Liam can rise to that challenge and deliver some outstanding results for us next year.

  • Perez and Red Bull part ways

    Sergio Perez and Red Bull have reached an agreement to part ways with immediate effect.

    Last year, Perez signed a new deal to race for the team until the end of 2026 – on the back of his strongest season ever in 2023, when he finished second to team mate and champion Max Verstappen.

    However, his form wasn’t the same after signing that deal, the Mexican driver scored only nine points in the last eight Grand Prix weekends of the 2024 season.

    He finished the season in eighth in the drivers’ championship with Red Bull failing to defend their constructors’ championship and seeing out the season in P3 behind champions McLaren and runners-up Ferrari.

    Throughout the difficult period and many rumours, Perez remained resolute that he would race for the team this year, but following discussions with Red Bull they’ve agreed to split after four years together.

    During his time at Red Bull Perez secured five wins, including victory in Monaco, over 90 starts with the team and also played a key role in Red Bull winning the constructors’ championship in 2022 and 2023.

    I’m incredibly grateful for the past four years with Oracle Red Bull Racing and for the opportunity to race with such an amazing team. Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience and I’ll always cherish the successes we achieved together. We broke records, reached remarkable milestones, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people along the way. A big thank you to every person in the team from the management, engineers and mechanics, catering, hospitality, kitchen, marketing and communications, as well as everyone at Milton Keynes, I wish you all the best for the future. It has also been an honour to race alongside Max as a team mate all these years and to share in our success.     I would like to thank Checo for all he has done for Oracle Red Bull Racing over the past four seasons. From the moment he joined in 2021 he proved himself to be an extraordinary team player, helping us to two constructors’ titles and to our first one-two finish in the drivers’ championship. His five wins, all on street circuits, were also a spectacular mark of his determination to always push to the limit. While Checo will not race for the team next season, he will always be an extremely popular team member and a treasured part of our history. Thank you, Checo.

  • Ferrari announce launch date

    Lewis Hamilton’s first Ferrari Formula 1 car will break cover on February 19th, a day after the sport’s inaugural season launch at London’s O2 to mark its 75th anniversary.

    Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur revealed the date during the Italian team’s annual Christmas media event, where it was held at their Fiorano test track.

    Vasseur also confirmed the team will run the 2025 car on February 19th but did not give any more details as to who will drive, nor any information on what the launch will look like.

    Following their event at Maranello, Ferrari will head straight to Bahrain for three days of testing, which begins on February 26th at the Bahrain International Circuit.
    Hamilton and new team mate Charles Leclerc will get one and a half days of running between them at the desert venue before the season opener in Melbourne, Australia.

    We will have a couple of test days with TPC [testing of previous cars] and Pirelli [tyre test running] before Bahrain. It’s a very short period. At the end of the day, you have launch of the car on Feb 19 – and then we are going directly to Bahrain for the first test and to Melbourne. It means this will be a rush, but I’m not worried at all. He [Hamilton] is coming with experience of this. He did almost 20 seasons in F1 – and he will manage perfectly this period. We know that we will have a lot of procedures to assimilate during these couple of days, but I think he is experienced enough to do it. We’ll have the advantage to have the simulator. Obviously he will be able to do a race simulation, quali simulation into the simulator, and to be fully prepared with the steering wheel and the particularities of the race. But honestly, I’m not worried about this. It’s not the biggest challenge.

  • Madrid to host F2 & F3 races from 2026

    The Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, set to take place in Madrid from 2026 to 2035, will also feature the FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 Championships.

    The ten year agreement brings the lower-tier F1 categories to Madrid, enriching the fan experience with not only the thrill of top-tier racing but also the opportunity to witness the merging talents on the road to Formula 1.

    This agreement was signed by FIA F2 and FIA F3 CEO Bruno Michel, Jose Vicente de los Mozos, President of the Executive Committee of IFEMA Madrid, Daniel Martinez, Executive Vice-President of IFEMA Madrid and Luis Garcia Abad, General Director of IFEMA Madrid.

    Having both Formula 2 and Formula 3 racing on the same weekend as Formula 1 underscores the commitment of the Spanish GP organisers to deliver a sporting and entertainment experience for fans.

    I am extremely happy to bring F2 and F3 to Madrid, at this exciting new venue. It’s important that the young drivers in both our championships get to race on as many F1 tracks as possible. With the addition of Madrid to the Formula 1 calendar, it was logical that F2 and F3 would follow suit. I am really looking forward to our cars providing the spectators with some thrilling racing.

  • Doriane Pin returns for second season

    Doriane Pin will be returning to the F1 Academy grid, for her second season as the Mercedes junior looks to go one better this season.

    Scoring three victories and an additional five podiums en route to becoming the Vice Champion this year, Pin will remain behind the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG F1 Academy entry operated by PREMA Racing.

    The French racer will also benefit from additional track time, as she combines her second F1 Academy season with a second season in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA).

    Determined to fight for the championship in the Mercedes colours, the Iron Dame expressed her delight at continuing the partnership for a second season.

After becoming Vice Champion in F1 ACADEMY in my maiden season, I am extremely motivated to go for the Drivers’ title in 2025.     Doriane has enjoyed a very successful first season in single-seaters. Making the switch from GT and endurance cars is never easy, as both the driving style and skill set required is different. She has handled that change well, achieving success in several championships and competing strongly in F1 ACADEMY She has scored some notable successes and finishing second overall in her first season in the category is a superb achievement. Considering the progress she has taken this year and the experience she now has, we are confident that Doriane can fight for the F1 ACADEMY title in 2025.   • Emma Felbermayr joins F1 Academy

    Emma Felbermayr will be making her F1 Academy debut next season, as Kick Sauber have announced that the Austrian driver will be representing them on the grid this season in her Rodin Motorsport car.

    Beginning her racing journey at 7 years old in karting, Felbermayr went on to compete in her first national race in the Micro Class the following year before progression onto the Mini Class and then Junior level.

    At 13 years old, she competed in her first international race, finishing runner-up in the 2021 ADAC Ladies Cup.
    The following year saw her step up into the Senior category, racing in the German championship, WSK races and the World Championship.

    Following a rib injury in early 2023, Felbermayr moved into the KZ category. Alongside competing in the German Championship and ADAC Kart Masters, she qualified 23rd overall out of 119 drivers.

    As part of her racing programme, the 17 year old will be participating in the 2025 Formula Winter Series and Spanish F4 Championship with Rodin.

    I’m proud and thrilled to be joining KICK Sauber F1 Team for the 2025 F1 ACADEMY season. This is an incredible opportunity to take the next step in my racing career and to challenge myself at this exciting level.   • Duerksen confirmed for 2025

    AIX Racing have confirmed that Joshua Duerksen will be joining the team this year for a second campaign in FIA Formula 2.

    The Paraguayan driver completed his rookie campaign in the Championship with the team in 2024, achieving four podium results along with two race wins, including the season-ending Yas Marina Feature Race.

    Duerksen made the jump up to Formula 2 after competing in the 2023 edition of Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine where he secured multiple points finishes and a podium.

    I am really excited and happy to announce that I will continue one more year with AIX Racing. We had a great season this year, having four podiums and two wins. And of course, I hope that next year we can replicate a lot more of this success. The progress of the year has been incredible. And I am just extremely happy that you can see me with these colours again next year.

  • Alisha Palmowski to drive for RB

    Alisha Palmowski has become the eighth driver locked in for the 2025 F1 Academy campaign, with the Brit joining the Red Bull Racing Academy programme for next season.

    The 18 year old will be driving for Campos Racing alongside Red Bull Ford’s Chloe Chambers and RB’s Rafaela Ferreira, who are all part of the Red Bull Academy programme.

    Palmowski has already had her first taste of F1 Academy, competing as the Wild Card entry for Round 6 in Lusail, Qatar.
    A promising weekend saw her qualify sixth and fourth, before going on to score a P5 finish in Race 1.

    Starting her career in karting back in 2018, she achieved the Junior Vice Champion title in the Daniel Ricciardo Series in 2020 and 2021.
    Stepping up to cars in 2022, the following year saw her finish fifth in the Ginetta Junior Championship with 10 podiums.

    Selected as a BRDC Rising Star last year, Palmowski brought home more success in her first year in single-seaters, becoming the Vice Champion in the GB4 Championship with three wins, two pole positions and 11 podiums – the most in the field.

    I am incredibly excited and honoured to be joining the Red Bull Racing Pepe Jeans Programme in F1 ACADEMY for 2025. Oracle Red Bull Racing is one of the best teams on the grid, and to see the talent they have brought through the doors and to get to be a part of that next generation is something that I could never have imagined. The Team has been incredibly supportive so far, and I can’t wait to get fully underway with them in 2025 with the ultimate goal of winning the championship. I have already been working in the sim and with the Team to get a jumpstart on next year and have full focus on performing and delivering results.

  • Ferrari to supply GM with power units

    Ferrari have announced that they have entered into an agreement with the General Motors/Cadillac F1 project to supply the team with power units and gearboxes starting in 2026, the year in which the manufacturer could potentially join the grid.

    It was confirmed in November that Formula 1 had reached an agreement in principle to support bringing GM/Cadillac as the 11th team in the field in 2026, while news followed in early December that former Marussia Sporting Director Graeme Lowdon had been appointed Team Principal.

    Now Ferrari have confirmed a technical collaboration agreement with GM/Cadillac, subject to the team receiving confirmation from the FIA and F1 that their entry to the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship has been accepted and approved.

    It’s great to see the commitment of another American team, backed by one of the most highly respected marques in the motor industry, at a time when Formula 1 is increasing in popularity in the United States. We are delighted therefore that we will be supplying the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration. It means we will continue to have two ‘customer teams’ in the championship with all the benefits this brings in terms of technical development within Ferrari.

  • Josep Maria Marti continues with Campos

    Campos Racing have confirmed that Josep Maria Marti will continue with the team for the 2025 Formula 2 season, completing their lineup for next season following the announcement of Arvid Lindblad.

    Marti returns for a second season of F2 after a rookie campaign in which he achieved four podiums, including a Yas Marina Sprint Race victory.

    Marti and Campos share a long history together, with the 19 year old having raced for the team each year since stepping up to single seater racing in 2019.
    Including in the 2023 Formula 3 season when he fought for the title before finishing the season in fifth.

    The Spanish driver is now set to return for a fifth season with Campos colours, following the announcement Marti expressed his delight at continuing with the team.

    I’m very excited to be returning today Campos Racing for my 2nd season in Formula 2 in 2025. Since the start of my single seater career, Adrian father and son have had faith in me and now we are facing our fifth season together. I am confident that with this team that I consider as family, and the hard work that we have put in during 2024, we will be very competitive and surely a top contender.     I am happy that Pepe and Campos Racing can continue working together for the fifth consecutive year. He is like family to us, and we understand each other perfectly as he is fully integrated into the team. It has been a fairly positive first year in FIA Formula 2, with four podiums, including a victory in Abu Dhabi, which should serve as the ultimate motivation for 2025.   • PREMA complete 2025 line-up

    Sebastian Montoya will graduate to Formula 2 next season with PREMA Racing the team have confirmed.

    The Colombian driver joins Gabriele Mini for 2025, completing the Italian outfit’s line-up for next season.

    Montoya completed in his second FIA Formula 3 campaign this year, finishing the season with six points finishes, including a P2 in the Spa-Francorchamps Feature Race.

    The Red Bull Junior Team driver started his single seater racing career with PREMA in 2020, racing in Italian F4 with the team and finishing fourth overall the following year.

    He then moved onto Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine for 2022 before making the step up to FIA F3 full-time in 2023.

    I’m very excited to join PREMA for the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season. It was the first team I worked with and that makes it very cool to see how the team changed. It is one of the best teams in feeder series racing and now in the world. I’m delighted to join forces with it again and cannot wait to get it started.

  • Hitech Pulse-Eight confirm Beganovic

    Hitech Pulse-Eight have confirmed that Dino Beganovic will be stepping up to Formula 2 full-time next season, completing their 2025 lineup.

    Beganovic graduated to F2 for the final two rounds of the 2025 season, scoring 22 points across the Lusail and Yas Marina weekend, including a P3 finish in the final Sprint Race of the year.

    This followed his title-contending 2024 Formula 3 season in which he achieved two victories and a further two podiums on his way to ending up sixth in the Standings.

    Prior to that, the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy member won the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine and following the announcement of his plans for 2025, the Swede expressed his delight at the news.

    I’m thrilled to join Hitech GP for my first full season in Formula 2 next year. Having had a brief introduction to F2 over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been really impressed by the car and the level of the championship. Stepping up full time in 2025 with one of the series’ top teams is an amazing opportunity. I’m tremendously grateful to Hitech, Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, and everyone else who made this possible. It’s a big, important step in my career and I can’t wait to start working with the team this week at the post-season test.

    We’re delighted to welcome Dino for our 2025 Formula 2 campaign. Having competed against him for several years, it is great to have him driving for Hitech and we look forward to working with him. Dino’s record in single-seater racing is impressive. After two highly competitive seasons in Formula 3, he took his F2 debut in his stride in Lusail, demonstrating that he was ready to take the next step up the ladder. His performance in Abu Dhabi one week later was outstanding. Together with Luke, we have a strong line-up to fight for the Formula 2 Championship title next year.   • Miyata joins ART Grand Prix for 2025

    ART Grand Prix have announced that Ritomo Miyata will join the team next season in Formula 2.
    The Japanese driver completed his rookie campaign this year, finishing the season with eight point finishes across the campaign.

    Miyata joined Formula 2 after winning the Super Formula and Super GT GT500 titles in 2023.
    Prior to that, the Toyota Gazoo Racing driver secured victories in Japanese Formula 4 and the Super Formula Lights series’, winning titles in both categories in 2020 and 2017 respectively.

    Speaking about his move to ART, Miyata said that he was hugely excited to be joining a team which has achieved so much success in Formula 2.

    I am thrilled to announce that I will be competing in the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season with ART Grand Prix. I am deeply grateful to Morizo-san (Akio Toyoda) and everyone at TGR for giving me another opportunity to race in Formula 2. I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to ART Grand Prix for warmly welcoming me into their team. ART Grand Prix is a prestigious team in the world of motorsport, and I feel honored and excited to compete alongside them as one of their drivers.   • Meguetounif steps up to Formula 2

    Trident have confirmed their first driver signing for the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season with Sami Meguetounif set to step up to the second tier with the team this year.

    The Frenchman had a strong 2024 campaign with the team in Formula 3, finishing eighth in the Championship Standings thanks to his two feature race victories in Imola and Monza.

    Prior to that, Meguetounif took part in the 2022 and 2023 season of Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine achieving several podiums across his two seasons in the category.

    He will now graduate to Formula 2 with Trident, the 20 year old expressed his delight at not only stepping up to F2 but also doing so in familiar surroundings.

    I am very happy and excited to make my debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Team Trident. When I made my debut in Formula 3 with the Italian team twelve months ago, I did not think I would grow so quickly. This year I have worked with strong, intelligent and determined people. We have had an incredible season, which has allowed me, also thanks to two wonderful victories, to convince those who support me that it was time to move up a ladder.   • PREMA confirm Mini for 2025

    Gabriele Mini will step up to FIA Formula 2 in 2025 with PREMA Racing the Italian outfit have confirmed.

    The Alpine Academy driver finished as runner-up in this seasons’ FIA F3 campaign, taking one win and four podiums across the season.

    Mini has already driven in Formula 2 for PREMA, as he deputised for Oliver Bearman earlier in the year for Round 12 in Baku,
    He was able to secure a podium finish in the Sprint Race, ending up third on the rostrum.

    Earlier in his career, Mini race with PREMA in Italian Formula 4 back in 2021 before reuniting with the team in F3 in 2024 after two seasons away.

    The 19 year old is a member of the Alpine Academy and has been since the beginning of 2023.
    He also took part in the rookie test in Formula E with Nissan Formula E Team.

    Very happy to be joining PREMA in FIA F2 and to keep working together for another season. We showed excellent potential and speed throughout the whole year in Formula 3. After the great run at Baku, I hope we will keep working that way to try and fight at the front end of the championship again.   • Maini switches to DAMS

    DAMS Lucas Oil have confirmed that Kush Maini will be driving for them in the 2025 Formula 2 season, completing their lineup for next having already announced the retention of Jak Crawford.

    Maini will be returning for a third season of F2 after achieving six podiums across his first two campaigns including a victory in the 2024 Budapest Sprint Race.

    Prior to Formula 2, he competed in Formula 3 in 2022, where he finished 14th overall. Not only this but he became reserve driver for Mahindra Racing in Formula E for Season 10 where he also took part in the Berlin rookie test too.

    I’m thrilled to be joining a team with such a strong pedigree and history in Formula 2 like DAMS Lucas Oil. I feel like my story in this championship isn’t completed yet, and I know that this is the right crew to help me further my career. I’ve taken pole positions and won races, so now it’s all about consistently delivering over the course of a campaign. I can’t wait to get started this week with post-season testing alongside Jak, and to form an experienced team as we look to battle for the championship in 2025.

  • Hitech confirm Luke Browning

    Hitech Pulse-Eight have announced that Luke Browning will race for the team in Formula 2 next season, their first confirmed driver for 2025.

    Browning made the step up to F2 earlier this season in Baku after a stellar 2024 campaign with Hitech in F3 in which he fought for the title until the final race of the year.

    The Williams Racing Driver Academy member finished the year with three podiums, including two Feature Race victories in Sakhir and Spielberg.

    He goes into the 2025 season having accumulated F2 experience this year, taking part in the final three rounds of the year in Baku, Lusail and Yas Marina, scoring points across the six races.

    I’m so happy that I’ll be racing in F2 with Hitech next season. I’ve been through every category of single seater racing with this team and to be able to complete the ladder with them is incredibly important and special for me. I would like to thank Oliver Oakes in particular for his support throughout the last three seasons. There is nothing I want more than to win the F2 Championship with this group of people around me, and that is our goal for 2025.

    After three seasons with Hitech, Luke has worked closely with the team at every stage of his journey up the single-seater ladder. We’re extremely proud of his progression to F2, and to see him get his competitive F1 debut last week in Abu Dhabi. With Luke getting the opportunity to step up to Formula 2 for the final three rounds of the current season, coupled with the experience he has gathered from his Formula 1 Free Practice, and the Young Driver Test this week, we couldn’t have wished for better preparation for his 2025 campaign.   • Stanek moves to Invicta for 2025

    Invicta Racing have confirmed the signing of Roman Stanek for the 2025 Formula 2 season, completing their driver lineup for this year following the announcement of F3 Champion Leonardo Fornaroli.

    Stanek returns for a third season in F2 having previously won the 2024 Melbourne Sprint Race having also achieved a further eight point finishes across his previous two seasons.

    Prior to that, the Czech driver fought for the title until the final round of the 2022 Formula 3 Championship, winning one race and achieving a further three podiums.

    Speaking following the announcement, Stanek was excited to have the opportunity to race for the 2024 Champions.

    I can’t wait to drive for Invicta Racing in 2025. The team has been fighting at the front of the field all season, achieved some really great results and is undoubtedly one of the most desirable options in the paddock for next year. That means there’ll be some pressure for Leonardo (Fornaroli) and I, but I think we’re up to the challenge. I’m ready for whatever F2 throws at me in 2025.

  • Block returns for 2025 with Williams

    Lia Block will be back for more in 2025, as Williams have announced that the American driver will continue to represent them next season.
    The 18 year old’s sophomore campaign also sees her drive with ART Grand Prix again.

    This season, Block has taken the transition from rallying to single-seaters in her stride. Building confidence and strengthening her skills round-by-round.
    She finished eighth in the Drivers’ Standings with two P4 finishes which was her best finish.

    Alongside representing them on the grid, Block will remain a member of the Williams Racing Driver Academy and she is thrilled at continuing their partnership for another year.

  • F1 to race in Shanghai until 2030

    Formula 1 has announced a five-year extension with the Chinese Grand Prix that will see the Shanghai International Circuit remain on the calendar through the 2030 season.

    The extension follows Formula 1’s successful return to China in 2024 after a five-year absence, where 200,000 fans attended the race to see Max Verstappen take victory in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix.

    In the 20 years since its first race, the 5.45km Shanghai International Circuit has established itself as a favourite of drivers and fans alike.
    The drivers relish the unique challenge the circuit provides, including the ever-tightening Turns 1 and 2, and high g-force Turns 7 and 8.

    Since Rubens Barrichello’s victory in the inaugural race, the Chinese Grand Prix has seen nine other winners, including six victories from Lewis Hamilton and two from Fernando Alonso from the current grid.

    This extension marks Formula 1’s continued growth in China as the sport’s popularity and audience continue to increase.
    The sport has seen its fanbase in China climb to over 150 million, with more than half of this group starting to follow Formula 1 in the last four years.

    The Chinese Grand Prix will be the second round on the 2025 calendar, taking place on March 21st – 23rd and will host the first F1 Sprint event of the season, as well as the first round of F1 Academy.

    Our return to China this season for the first time since 2019 was a fantastic moment for the sport, and it is incredible to see the levels of support that we enjoy in the country continuing to grow year-on-year. Shanghai is an incredible city, and the racetrack is a wonderful test for our drivers, so I am delighted that Formula 1 will continue its successful partnership with the Chinese Grand Prix for a further five years. I want to thank our promoter for their continued commitment and passion, and I look forward to returning to Shanghai in the new year.

  • F1 Academy expands to 18 cars

    F1 Academy has announced that Hitech Grand Prix will join the grid and operate three cars from the 2025 season, expanding the grid to 18 cars.

    The expansion of the grid in the third season of F1 Academy reflects the series’ rapid growth since it was founded in 2022 and the increasing talent pool of young female drivers.
    The increase will create additional opportunities for progression for emerging talents who are ready to make the next step into F1 Academy.

    The British team, which currently compete in the GB3 Championship, British Formula 4 and Formula Winter Series, will operate two cars with full time drivers, and a third car which will host the Wild Card entry.

    Six Wild Card entries have featured on the F1 Academy grid in 2024, with three previous Wild Cards, Courtney Crone, Ella Lloyd and Nina Gademan having secured full time seats for 2025.

    HiTech Grand Prix joins five existing teams, ART Grand Prix, Campos Racing, Rodin Motorsport, MP Motorsport and PREMA Racing, with each team set to field three cars for the 2025 season.
    All six teams have an established history in junior racing including the FIA Formula 3 Championship and FIA Formula 2 Championships.

    We are proud to be expanding the F1 ACADEMY grid to 18 cars in just our third season of racing.   • MP Motorsport confirm Goethe

    MP Motorsport have confirmed that Oliver Goethe will continue racing for them in Formula 2 next season, completing their driver lineup for 2025.

    Goethe stepped up to F2 with MP at Monza as a replacement for Franco Colapinto after a title-contending season in Formula 3.
    He achieved one victory and two further podiums on his way to finishing seventh in the standings.

    Since his call up, the German driver has scored 12 points for the team, which all came in the Feature Race at Lusail, where he finished fourth.

    He will now step up to F2 full-time next season partnering Richard Verschoor and speaking about his confirmation, Goethe says his experiences in 2024.

    I’m truly delighted to continue with MP Motorsport in 2025. It’s the logical thing to do – my four F2 rounds with MP this season will provide me with valuable experience working with the team and with Richard too, as we use that as a stepping stone towards next year’s full-season Formula 2 effort together. I’ve enjoyed many good times with the team when I started out in single-seaters five years ago, and on my return at Monza I was made to feel at home immediately. I can’t wait to go racing one more time in Abu Dhabi before preparing for our 2025 challenge.

    It was great news that we were able to welcome Oliver back in the team at Monza, and its great news yet again that he is staying on for more Formula 2 in 2025. Oliver fitted right back in as soon as he rejoined our team and we look forward to repeating the strong results we gained in our time together in Spanish F4 and, of course, only recently at Macau in the FIA FR World Cup. Along with Richard, we have two very familiar faces in our team, and we aim to build on their close bond with the team to finish this season on a high and come out strong in 2025.

  • Graeme Lowdon announced as GM F1 Project Team Principal

    Former Marussia Sporting Director Graeme Lowdon has been announced as the Team Principal of General Motors’ F1 project, ahead of the manufacturer potentially joining the grid in 2026.

    On November 25th, it was announced that Formula 1 had reached an agreement in principle to support General Motors/Cadillac joining the grid as an 11th team in 2026.

    Now it’s been announced that Lowdon will oversee the project, with the Brit having last seen active on the pit wall with Manor Marussia in 2015 in his role as the team’s Sporting Director.

    Lowdon has most recently played a part in the management of China’s first ever full-time F1 racer Zhou Guanyu, who has departed Kick Sauber this year, alongside his work as an executive advisor for the General Motors project.

    I’m truly honored to be appointed as the Team Principal of this exciting new team and I would like to thank everyone involved for placing their trust in me. I believe that Formula 1 is the greatest team sport in the world, and teams are all about people. This is a team with a real love for, and desire to go, racing, and we have the experience and expertise to do just that. Racing is at the very heart of everything that we do. This is what I want to see in a team, and I really want to be part of it. I don’t underestimate the task ahead and I have the utmost respect for the competition.   • Trident sign Esterson for 2025

    Trident have announced that Max Esterson will continue racing with the team for the 2025 Formula 2 campaign, which is their first confirmed driver signing for next season.

    Esterson stepped up to F2 in Lusail with Trident after completing his first full season of Formula 3 with Jenzer Motorsport.

    He achieved two-point scoring finishes across the campaign, including in his debut Sprint Race in Sakhir, also achieving a front row start at Silverstone.

    Prior to F3, Esterson began his racing career on iRacing, before making the switch to Formula Ford in the UK and winning the Formula Ford Festival in 2022.

    I am thrilled to be able to compete in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Trident Motorsport. Participating in the Lusail race last weekend and the Abu Dhabi final are very useful in this regard. I think I have already understood many aspects of the category. Together with the technical staff, I will work hard this winter to make 2025 a great year.   • Nina Gademan enters F1 Academy with Alpine

    Nina Gademan will be making her full-time F1 Academy debut this year, with Alpine announcing that the Dutch racer will be representing them on the grid.

    The 21 year old becomes the third Wild Card driver to make the step up after an impressive performance during Round 4 in Zandvoort.
    Gademan secured P4 and P10 finishes, earning her 13 points on home soil – the first Wild Card entry to do so.

    Prior to this, she won the 2019 FIA Motorsport Games Karting Slalom Cup for Team Netherlands.
    This year saw Gademan make her single-seater debut competing in the F4 British Championship, scoring her first rookie podium during Round 4 at Thruxton.

    I am incredibly proud to be representing BWT Alpine Formula One Team in the 2025 F1 ACADEMY season. This is a moment I once thought might never come, and it is a dream come true. Having the support of a team with such an incredible legacy means the world to me.   • Joshua Dufek joins HiTech for 2025

    HiTech Pulse-Eight have confirmed Joshua Dufek for the 2025 FIA Formula 3 season. He joins Martinius Stenshorne and Gerrard Xie and completes the team’s line up for next season.

    The Austrian driver completed his rookie campaign with AIX Racing in 2024, finishing the year with a best-finish of 10th.

    Dufek took part in post-season testing with Hitech, finishing eighth fastest in Jerez and fifth in Barcelona on the second and final day of the respective tests.

    Prior to F3, Dufek raced in Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, and race in the EuroFormula Open Championship in 2023.

    Moving up to my second full season of F3 with Hitech is a fantastic next step in my career. The team is really strong and we’ve seen this year that they were always in the fight for the title. I think it will be the perfect environment for me to build on my 2024 experience and achieve some good results. I’m really excited about this opportunity and I’m looking forward to getting to work with the team and with a brand-new generation of F3 car.

    We’re very happy to welcome Joshua back to Hitech after he was part of the team’s Formula Regional Asian campaign in 2022. He knows Hitech well and that familiar environment will be of benefit to him as he embarks on his second full season in Formula 3. He drove for us in the end of season tests in October and we were very pleased with his performances. Together with Martinius Stenshorne and Gerrard Xie I think we can make another strong bid for both Championship titles.

  • Dutch Grand Prix extended until 2026

    Formula 1 and the Dutch Grand Prix promoter have announced a one-year contract extension which will see Circuit Zandvoort remain on the Formula 1 calendar through the 2026 season.

    After much consideration and discussion, the decision has been taken by the promoter not to remain on the calendar after 2026.

    The past few years have seen some great action in the Dutch Grand Prix after the sport’s long break from racing in the Netherlands.

    The event has become known for its fans experience, with Dutch fans and International visitors alike gathering to watch Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3, F1 Academy and more, battling around the iconic banked corners of the circuit.

    It has also established itself as a leading sustainable sporting event, pioneering technologies that are now used across the Formula 1 calendar.

    The return of the Dutch Grand Prix in 2021, coincided with a period of dominance for local hero Max Verstappen, who has won the race three times.

    I am incredibly grateful for the work that the team at the Dutch Grand Prix have done in recent years. They raised the bar for European Grands Prix in terms of event spectacle and entertainment, supported the development of young talent by hosting F2, F3 and our F1 ACADEMY series, and have also pioneered sustainable solutions that have inspired our events around the world as we drive towards being Net Zero by 2030. All parties positively collaborated to find a solution to extend the race, with many options, including alternation or annual events on the table, and we respect the decision from the promoter to finish its amazing run in 2026. I want to thank all the team at the Dutch Grand Prix and the Municipality of Zandvoort who have been fantastic partners to Formula 1.

  • MP Motorsport confirm Giusti for 2025

    Alessandro Giusti will race with MP Motorsport in 2025, joining Tim Tramnitz and Bruno Del Pino at the Dutch team and completing their line-up for next season.

    The Williams Academy member moves up from the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, where he finished fourth overall, taking two race victories and a further five podiums.

    Prior to FRECA, the Frenchman raced in the French F4 Championship where he won the title in 2022 during his second campaign in single seaters.

    Giusti took part in the F3 post-season test with MP, finishing eighth overall in Jerez and 12th in Barcelona as he got his first taste of F3 machinery ahead of his debut next year.

    I’m excited to step up to Formula 3 with MP Motorsport. Our first tests together at Jérez and Barcelona were highly promising which is a good sign for my rookie season in the category. It’s my aim to know the team better as we head into the coming season, especially with the new F3-2025 car. I can’t wait to make my F3 debut at Melbourne in March!

  • Nissan sign Sette Camara as Reserve & Simulator Driver

    Nissan have signed Brazilian, Sergio Sette Camara as the team’s Reserve and Simulator Driver for Season 11.

    The Brazilian has been a full-time racer in the series for the last four seasons, putting in several strong performances.

    Previously he took multiple victories and podiums in FIA Formula 2, before making the switch to the all-electric championship midway through Season 6 (2019/20).

    The 26 year old will work closely with Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato throughout the new campaign to ensure that the Japanese outfit remains a strong contender in the championship.

    His experience will be very valuable not only in the simulator for event preparation, but also to help the team with its continuous development of the Nissan e-4ORCE 05 Gen3 Evo car.

    I’m thrilled to join Nissan. It’s always been a goal of mine to work with a big manufacturer in the series, and Nissan took a big step forward in Season 10. I believe that, with my experience, I can help the team to keep this momentum going. I’m pleased to become the reserve and simulator driver and contribute to developing the car in the right direction as we enter the GEN3 Evo era. I can’t wait to get started and be in attendance at my home E-Prix this weekend with the squad.

He has plenty of experience in the championship and is a very talented racer, so it was a clear choice for us to sign him. Regardless of ability, it’s tough to jump in a Formula E car and be competitive straight away, given its complexity, so we were keen to recruit an experienced driver and ensure we don’t miss any chance to score points in the season, no matter the circumstances. We’ll also benefit from his extensive knowledge of the series in our race preparation, which is always key. I am convinced he will be a great asset to the team and help us achieve our full potential.
